cheap cable proves expensive
on 29 November 2013
Firstly I'm not a computer genius, more of a persistent beginner, so when I order an item I expect it to work when I plug it in. After viewing youtube how-to videos I plugged in my usb 3 card and connected this cable. The light was on on the card, the driver installed correctly, but nada. I unplugged and replugged the cable, but nothing.
Not having helpful friends I had to take the computer to a computer repair guy who uncovered that the red lead was loose and this was why the card wouldn't work. He taped it up and instantly the card recognised the usb 3 external drive and we were good to go. £20 poorer though!
So word of caution. If your cable doesn't work - check the leads - they just might be loose. Surely it wouldn't have killed the manufacturer to check the cables as they are being produced.
