Fantastic new album from Moya Brennan
on 12 November 2011
I have to say that this new album from Moya Brennan is quite surprising! After Two Horizons, which more or less was a reworking of what she had already done before (Perfect Time and Whisper...), Signature sounds fresh and new. The album is not yet another Clannad-esque (or Enya-esque) collage of new age beats and ambient soundscapes. This time you have a very personal and more acoustic approach to her songs. While this is not an album filled with catchy tunes, you'll find that the songs really play well with each others forming a great, picturesque tapestry. I read somewhere this album is a reflection on Moya's life and you can actually feel these songs come from the heart of a person who's experienced much. There is sadness, there is pain, there is hope and love - all in wonderful arrangements and graced with Moya's voice and deep lyrics. My personal favourites include the touching ballad Black Night - the very first song off the album that I had heard before I got the whole CD, the catchy Merry-go-round, the haunting Never Stray Far Away and the dizzy Purple Haze. But as I said - the whole album is beautfiul and worth closer look. She really did a great job with this album!
