Good fsx add on, but with flaws.
on 9 March 2010
The detail in this add on cannot really be faulted at all, and the sound from the engines is superb, but using it on a Windows 7 platform gives a few unwanted glitches. At times the landing gear stays down regardless of whether you use "G" or the cockpit control, and messages appear telling you that the maximum speed for the flaps or landing gear is being exceeded even if they are not actually deployed! However this only seems to happen if the flight is started "in the air", ground take off's are OK.
There also seems to be a slight problem in the instruments, there are 4 starter switches for 2 engines, 1 instrument needs the magnetos switched off to work, doing so causes the engines to fail! However, this is an excellent simulator for detail and sound, it really is strange to try to take off seeing nothing until the tail rises up, and using only visual references to navigate and land is challenging. Firing the guns produces a stream of ejected cannon casings to fall away form the nose, with flashes from the guns and smoke trails drifting back from it, very impressive! The glitches may well not be present with Vista/XP, but even with Windows 7 there is nothing to really spoil your enjoyment of flying this legend of the WW2 skies. As with the Spitfire add on, be sure that the "control settings" regarding propellor torque etc are set to "max" to really experience what it was like to fly this aircraft at it's peak time. Highly recommended!
