Not as Good as Series One & Two.
on 31 December 2016
I am disappointed with this third series. One & Two were excellent and filled my life with laughter and smiles. Unfortunately this happens so often with comedy series. One series too many can ruin a legacy. The characters are made to look silly, the storylines become too far - fetched and frankly it all starts to nosedive. Yes, there are a few laughs of course but having got to the end, I just thought, well, that’s a shame because most of that was a pale shadow of what the first two series offered. I didn’t think that one episode was particularly brilliant. Frankly some of this was dreadful and just silly slapstick.
Gavin & Stacy got out at just the right time as did the Royal Family but others like Benidorm crashed alarmingly after an excellent start. It’s very hard to maintain the standard of comedic writing and scenarios needed to keep things at a very high level. It’s about knowing when to get out and leave them calling for more. I gave series 1 & 2 five stars but his offering is definitely a few stars down. I would recommend 1 & 2 without doubt, but certainly not his one.
