This dvd is a nice background to the great work of Ray Harryhausen! I love the films of Ray Harryhausen, as a kid they were the best of their kind and fulfilled the expectations of seeing dinosaurs and monsters on the screen. These are his original tests and short films including wartime animations and fairy tales. They are exquisitely animated and the picture quality is great. All the films are introduced by the great man himself.
This should be of use to students to see how low tech stop motion can still look stunning.
This dvd should be bought by every collector of Ray's movies as it gives a great insight into the man himself.
I loved it.

Magic at the purest form. The shorts are so beautiful and introduced by Mr Harryhausen himself ! All the documentaries in the second disc are fantastics too. A great present for everyone, children or adults who love cinema.

Five stars!! It deserves 15 stars or more!! This collection is filled to the point of bursting with Ray's earliest work and extras (which are too numerous to mention here). Even from the very start he had wonderful talent which was just as good as his sci-fi and adventure films. It is a remarkable look at the beginning of Ray's carrer. I would reccomend it to anyone who loves his work or is just curious.

For Ray Harryhausen fans. Great to see Ray's early work and to his progression to becoming the Master Crafts'man of his profession.

An interesting insight into the early work of a master, using nursery rhymes and fairy stories as the medium.

Early years of the animator's short films. Lovely 2 discs collection.
Similar animation to Nick Park's Grommit , and Svankmajer's Alice
and Little Otik.
Children and grownups are bound to like it.

Not bad value for money when I got it for under £5 - some animations have value as watchable items in their own right but mostly they are historical curiosities. They illuminate Harryhausen's personal and professional history to some extent and the added features which includes some interviews also adds to this. Some of the production values of these features and the overall production values of the DVD its self leave a little to be desired in their polish and circumspect. I have no problem recommending this DVD for those with an historic interest in animation, all those with nostalgic associations with some of the children's films, or of course those who just wish to fill some holes in their collection of Harryhausen work - particularly if it remains under £5.

Please see the title. Unfortunately, I had to return the defective DVDs today at a cost of 12.75 USD out-of-pocket expense (remains to be seen if this is refunded). Too bad seller doesn't support replacement instead of refund.

Those selections which were playable varied from excellent to good quality video and audio - Repunzel and the Tortoise and the Hare was grainy. The interviews with Ray were very informative.

The history behind stop-motion was interesting.

This DVD collection costs 100 USD from Amazon in the states hence interest in buying from UK.

If it wasn't for the defective DVD the rating would have been 5 stars.
