VINE VOICETOP 500 REVIEWERon 18 September 2012
Here, spread across four dvds in one box set, are all twenty five episodes from the eighth season of the Simpsons.

They are as follows:

Treehouse of Horror VII
You only move twice.
The Homer they fall.
Burns baby burns.
Bart after Dark
A Milhouse divided.
Lisa's date with density.
Hurricane Neddy.
El Viaje Misterioso De Nuestro Homer.
The Springfield files.
The twisted world of Marge Simpson.
Mountain of madness.
Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiliad'ochious.
The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie show.
Homer's phobia.
Brother from another series.
My sister, my sitter.
Homer vs the 18th amendment.
Grade school confidential.
The canine mutiny.
The old man and the Lisa.
In Marge we trust.
Homer's enemy.
Simpsons spin off showcase.
The secret war of Lisa Simpson.

This is a season that nobody argues about the quality of, so there are many excellent episodes here [and two rather weak ones: the Homer they fall and the secret war of lisa simpson aren't quite as funny as what's around them].

Every episode has direct scene access. And a commentary.

Any episode from which scenes were deleted will allow you to watch it with the scenes reinstated if you wish.

The Language and subtitle options are as follows:

Languages; English.

Subtitles: English.

Although the episode Homer's enemy on disc four has a special language features that allows it to be heard in either French, Dutch, Czech, or Mandarin.

Each disc has 'bit from the animators' where they will do special commentary on one particular episode, highlighting the tricks of the animation trade and what went right or wrong with the episode in question. These run from seven to twelve minutes and can get off topic but can be very informative.

Disc one has an introduction to the season from Simpsons creator Matt Groening, which lasts for a couple of minutes.

And a feature about the Simpsons House. A specially reproduced real life replica of the house from the show. This feature runs for three minutes.

Disc one also has an animation showcase for one episode which allows you to watch it with the animation in various stages of completeness.

On disc four there are seventeen minutes worth of deleted scenes. For the season as a whole. Some of them are in black and white by virtue of being slightly unfinished. These can be watched with or without commentary. The latter is worth a listen as it does give interesting detail as to why some got cut out.

Also on the disc are two short fox network promotions for the show, running one minute in total and showing Matt Groening drawing one particular character in each.

Plus a short gallery of original sketches and artwork.

With lots of jokes on the menus and in the suond when the discs start up, there's lots to discover here. It's another very good package for a very good season.

This series is amongst the best so far, featuring some classic episodes, such as "You Only Move Twice" (features a brilliant character, Hank Scorpio, Homer's new boss and supervillain), "The Springfield Files" (featuring guest voices of David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson as the X-Files's Mulder and Scully), "Mountain of Madness", "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(d'oh)cious", "Brother From Another Series", "Homer vs. the 18th Amendment", "Homer's Enemy" and "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson".

My favourite episodes are "Homer vs. the 18th Amendment" (It is discovered a prohibition law was created 200 years ago. When Chief Wiggum is caught drinking despite this, he is replaced by a police detective, who dresses like the way they did in the 1920s, Rex Banner. Homer then becomes the Beer Baron and supplies Moe with alcohol), and "Homer's Enemy" (Mr Burns employs a man named Frank Grimes, who had to struggle for everything he has. Frank not only takes a disliking to Homer, but seems to be the only perosn aware of Homer's stupidity and laziness. Bart meanwhile buys an old factory for $1 at an auction, which he and Milhouse spend their days in). This is a brilliant series, just as funny and better than some of the previous ones. Not to be missed by any Simpsons fan.

There was a time when The Simpsons never missed a point of well written comedy. Nowadays, its either a hit or a miss, greater the chance of missing, though.
Yet, and something which I thank technology for almost everyday, we have DVDs that forever collect and contain the moments of pure class A comedy.
Moments that will forever keep you in stitches of laughter with all the family. Now, you can never forget that special moment of watching the sweet natured nanny, Shary Bobbins (mistakenly thought of as Superman by everybody's most beloved drunk, Barney), fly away after a successful job of saving the Simpsons family, only to be sucked into the engine of a plane...It'll warm your heart.

Enough of me trying to write in some cheesy Disney sort of way - this season is awesome!

This was probably the best season of The Simpsons made (so far...) and includes many favourite episodes of mine including You Only Move Twice where Homer goes to work for a Bond villain type character called Hank Scorpio. It also has some of the best cameos in the shows history including Jack Lemmon as Mr. Burns' son and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as their X-Files characters Mulder and Scully. Even the Halloween episode, which is normally the one I find a chore each year, was at least better than previous Halloween episodes, and I really enjoyed the first segment which took a lot from Basketcase. Overall, if you're a Simpsons fan, this is highly recommended. 5/5

This, along with season 5, are my personal favourites, and indeed many die hard fans claim that season 8 was the last truly great one. I'm inclined to agree. I still love the show, still love the newer episodes, but, they'll never be as good as they were in the 90's.

Arrived quickly, well packaged. Great.
