Like Bella Union's recent 'Beneath the Surface Vol 2', this compilation updates one of the great indie labels, here offering the sound of Domino 2006/5. 14 tracks that demonstrate what a great label it is...though amusingly they don't bother to represent their most succesful act, those Artic Monkeys (this is the ideal co-purchase alongside the Monkeys' new e.p.).

There are a few joys from last year - The Kills' 'Love is a Deserter' from 'No Wow' and a track from the excellent 'The Repulsion Box' by Sons and Daughters (which alongside My Latest Novel's debut serves as the next wave of Scottish genius). I could live without Test Icicles though - the Gwar of Domino (& no that's not a compliment!). The Tortoise/Bonnie Prince Billy cover of Elton John's 'Daniel' is a curio, though the best tracks here come from Clearlake, The Television Personalities, Four Tet, Archie Bronson Outfit, Quasi, Adem, and Franz Ferdinand. The latter offer their recent double-a-side track 'L Wells', which sounds kinda fantastic - a bit more folky for them, though like most Ferdinand stuff it reminds you of someone else, on the tip of your cortex...

An excellent budget priced sampler that needs to be owned - what aren't you waiting for?
