Cary Grant does back flips
on 14 July 2016
This is an enjoyable film which is rarely seen but should not be overlooked. With a young Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant it has to be worth a look.
While on a break Johnny Case - Grant - meets and becomes engaged to Julia. He knows nothing of her background, it's enough that he loves her. The film opens with him arriving back home and getting ready to go and meet her. That's when he finds out what a wealthy family background she comes from and Daddy won't let just anyone marry into the family. In the family mansion he is introduced to Julia's older sister, Linda, who is a kindred spirit to his. Though Linda and Johnny grow close, Linda loves her sister and will do all she can to help her overcome their father's reluctance to the couple marrying. Johnny meanwhile, though he feels drawn to Linda, feels he loves Julia and she loves him.
The trouble is Johnny is a free spirit and though clever in his own field and doing well, wants to leave the rat race for a year or so to find out what he really wants to do. Julia is not so sure.
Great comedic characters are Johnnys best pals Nick and Susan Potter.
If you like Grant and Hepburn and enjoy films like Roman Holiday you should enjoy this too
