The speedster 3 steering wheel is bloomin' brilliant. With programable gear leavers and pedals, every game works with it. The pedals can be ajusted to be anologue so you can get greater sensitivity. The tuning function alows you to set the wheel up for your own driving style. You can adjust the dead zone, sensitivity, tracking control(stops it swerving, don't really need it),and how powerful the vibration should be.
As for quality, the rubber surrounding on the wheel is comfortalbe and grippy, the wheel has a good feel to it, but then so do the pedals.
Clamping it to the table is simple, but the manual doesn't really give a good diagram on how to do it. It works with one of the most important driving games: Gran Turismo 4, unlike the Logitech wheels. All in all if you want a well designed, aesthetically pleasing, reliable, quality steering wheel, go for this one, don't waste money on cheaper models as they tend to have a short life span. I've had a lot of fun with mine, and only had it a week, plus I've achieved faster driving times!
I still pull out my PS2 from time to time (and am still amazed how well the games stand up to most of those on my newer Xbox 360), and more often than not, I pull out this wheel along with it. Thanks to the "flaps", it has the distinct advantage of being usable on your knees -- and the wheel itself is is sturdy and has a nice rubberized grip. There's no force feedback at this price of course, but the wheel is spring-loaded, so you have to turn it harder to turn it further.
The pedals let it down slightly. They're flimsy and, as others have noted, they will eventually crack and break. When I noticed this starting to happen with mine, I just bound them up with duct tape and never had any more problems.
Put this steering wheel and GT4 together and you have a winning combination.
The wheel itself is brilliant and well built and comes with pedals for the brake and accelerator as well as the option to use the paddles at the side of the wheel.
You can attach it to a table or rest it on you lap with the special leg clamps which fold down.
I bought this especially for GT4 and have not looked back. My lap times improved, I won more races and my overall enjoyment increased as I actually felt like I was driving rather than the use of a controller which is rather impersonal.
Anyway, enough rambling. Just buy this wheel and GT4 and you will not be disappointed.
a brilliant wheel to play with, well designed but... and this is a big but the pedals break! i have had mine for a year and the break pedal has broken... will still be buying a new one because covers all the points i need and more!
this is a cracking wheel,i too bought it to play gt4 on,its a bit of a bugger to set up,and looses your setting when your turn it off,the only downside was the wheel became loose after not much use,and started wobbling, this in turn caused it to start changing gears on its own,at this price even i would have expected a little better.Could be bothered to send it back,so fixed it myself,it was one screw that sits in the wheel, and screws into plastic. That had stripped,so stuck a little nut inside with super glue, and now perfect again. A good tip i would offer, was i bought some industrial sticky velcro, and stuck it to the peddles,so now they dont slide on the carpet, used an old coffee table to clamp the wheel too,and used velcro on the feet of the table, totally transforms the game,as your not fighting everything as it slides away from you. The controller itself when you work it out is great, sensativity is infinately adjustable if you do it with the amount of freeplay in movement you can also adjust, you can manually program all the controls,so you can have the gear upshift/downshift either side,no feed back though, but does go where you point it. that good i am buying another for my niece!
