The Late Colin Vearncombe - 'Black' - was a writer and performer that never quite followed up his smash hit single, 'Wonderful Life'. As anyone who stuck with Vearncombe's work over the last twenty years will attest, though, he was a really gifted and truly talented individual. 'Between Two Churches' was an almost routinely excellent effort from Black, with some songcraft of the finest order. 'Charlemagne', 'Come Out Of The Rain' , and 'Two Churches' are great songs, but the more you dig deep into this album, the more it gives. Colin Vearncombe died early in 2016, ridiculously young, and had so much more to offer. He left a great musical legacy, however, of which this is but a small part.

Colins 'Sergeant Pepper, Blonde on Blonde, Pet Sounds'. An amazing album, put it on yr mp3 player the next time you go for a long journey....Ive been hurtiling down the M4 on a coach, oblivious to all but the beauty of 'Charlemagne', in airport departure lounges nursing a beer and musing on the title track (a contender surely for his greatest ever song?) , flying over the Himalayas wondering if Ive made the 'Same Mistake Twice' and crashed on a dozen cheap far eastern hotel beds but 'coming out of the rain'. I really cant recommend this album highly enough. Give it a go, you wont regret it. Even for a weekend in Bognor!!
