This is a good camcorder easy to use with good results,BUT there is No viewfinder so you have to use the LCD screen to see what you are shooting. Also the price of the accessories are very high for a two hour battery and more for a charger for it is not very good attall. Although you can charge them up via the camcorder.(which means you can not use it) Other accessories are allso too high in price. Otherwise an all-round good camcorder. One good thing is the Hard Disk Drive, you do not need to carry around packs of blank media to record on.
The MG30 is a neat little camcorder, very small and light thanks to the tiny hard drive, so no heavy tape drive mechanism to weigh you down. The big LCD is bright and clear, but will sap battery power as there is no eyepiece viewer. The image stabiliser works very well and greatly reduces image shake, and the on-screen menu is easy to use. However, the video editing software on the included CD (PC & Mac) is very poor indeed, and useless for creating home movies. If you own a recent Mac, you'll know that Apple's iMovie is a superb video editing application but the MPEG-2 format the MG30 creates can not be edited in it without massive deterioration in image quality when converting the files. So if you're a Mac user, I do not recommend this camcorder, unfortunately. Also, as others have stated, the accessories are extremely expensive and I think is laughable that no stand-alone battery charger is supplied. Four out of five for the camera, zero out of five for the software and accessories.
The MG30EK is a 30Gb Hard Disk CamCorder which is simplicity itself. It's very light and easy to use. I didn't really need the manual it is so easy to use. The quality of picture and sound is superb and editing is easy as one can download the Mpeg2 files directly to a PC via USB2. The MG30EK might be small but it is perfectly formed...
