This is a nice collection of programme music from the 30s, including some medleys from different shows as well as pieces by Noel Coward, Eric Coates and a host of other popular composers. The tracks chosen are light, joyful, sometimes wistful and occasionally eccentric, but all a good representation of an era and a style sadly gone. I was pleased with the quality of the recordings, given their age, and the choices were all well worth an airing. The cd cover is a rather nice painting by Sid Cooper, of Rush Hour, Coventry; and the insert booklet is a real gem, very informative, with pieces about composers, bands, shows and even one about the experimental stereo recordings at the end of the disc. For anyone with an interest in the golden era of the British dance bands, or about the music of the 1930s, or light classical music in general, this is an excellent purchase.
