Thanks to dedicated reissue labels such as Ace and Rhino much long forgotten material from US regional acts has been made available. World music specialists Arc have now made their contribution with this well chosen selection of what rocked Louisiana forty or fifty years ago. Artists with roots in cajun, zydeco and rock 'n' roll belt out numbers which will have your feet tapping for the duration. Well known performers such as Johnnie Allen and Rockin' Sidney are represented as are more obscure acts. Highlights include Opelousas Sostain by Rufus Jagneaux and two efforts by zydeco legends Rod Bernard and Clifton Chenier. Indeed, no compilation would be complete without the peerless My Jolie Blonde and it is a showstopper here. For first time buyers and for seasoned fans alike, this is a fine overview of the genre.
