Loved it as a family - different from all the churned out money making films made to encourage us to part with our cash

Meh.
It's alright, not as good as Howls Moving Castle or Spirited Away.
But good if you haven't seen either of them.

At last ... the first movie from the Ghibli ouvre, released in Blu-Ray. It is a miracle.

Everything you could hope for -- the scanning is state of the art. No absurd grain reduction or anything - just a morally pure capture of the celluloid itself. A miracle.

You can easily buy it right now from amazon japan wherever you are, assuming your bluray player has no problem with the region (ie, you have an Oppo bluray player)

The Japanese disc includes the english version, and indeed all known language versions (about seven language audio tracks).

Amazingly, amazon japan got it to me in THREE DAYS (!!!!!!!!!!!!) which must be a record, faster than buying something from amazon here in europe! Arrived wednesday morning after ordering on the weekend!

Enjoy!

Incidentally: one commentator noted that it would be "very expensive" to have the item shipped from Japan. In fact, surprisingly it was not expensive at all. I'm afraid I don't recall the exact price but it is surprisingly reasonable, considering you are getting express international delivery. I am the first to complain about high prices, but in this case no big problem. Of course currencies and delivery costs change so check for yourself.

Don't forget too the Japanese versions are the "real" versions of the new series being released by Ghibli - notably, they include ALL the language versions which have been made of the film (of course, that fact could be irrelevant to you, but bear it in mind).
