original, modern, and good - wow!
on 25 November 2016
My first thought about this was, I like it but it gets a bit samey. But it's a mood piece: wispy, Gothic, no drums, acoustic patterns overlaid with far-out guitar noises. It creates an atmosphere, and variety would be a distraction. It may lack the inspiration of old-style acid folk at its best, but it is also without the tweeness; the closest comparison I can think of is a cross between 'Hooded Man' Clannad and 70s Doctor Who. The lyrics seem a bit Twilight-ish, but as you can hardly hear them it doesn't matter. This is absorbing music that will stand a lot of listening. It's an unusual experience to be pleasantly surprised by a modern band (although I guess this is already 12 years old).
