Best cover versions album ever ?
on 30 June 2005
Many bands have released albums of cover versions but not many have done much justice, but as you would expect from Madness they have made these songs sound like their own as they have with any previous songs they have covered.Brilliant ska and reggae versions of some lesser known songs "Taller Than You Are" (Lord Tanamo), "You'll Loose A Good Thing" (Barbara Lynn), "Girl" (Prince Buster)and "Rain" (Jose Feliciano), also better known tracks "Lola" (Kinks), "So Much Trouble In The World" (Bob Marley), "Tou Keep Me Hanging On" (Supremes)and Israelites (Desmond Dekker). A great production job on this album by Dennis Bovell, Steve Dub, Segs and Madness themselves has given the album a unique sound of keeping the older feel of the songs yet making them sound modern. Madness have shown that they are at ease with a heavier reggae/dub sound as well as lighter sounding ska/pop. Fantastic album, take a bow lads.
