Wrong phone socket for UK phones
on 17 February 2013
I bought Belkin protectors at the same time as this (my first) APC, all rated for use on computers, TVs etc. so I am comparing similar(ish) products, all brand new.
I think the APC has the edge on Belkin . . . and I'm the proud owner of many Belkins. Little things like the gold coloured (plated ?) TV/coax connectors, the recessed on-off switch thereby protected from accidental on/off switching, the 4 'always on' sockets and 4 controlled by the on-off switch (handy for leaving things like modems and recorders on) and the quality of the cables included with the APC. It comes with a 1.8m TV/coaxial cable (gold coloured connectors), a 1.8m phone cable and a 1.8m network cable. The network and coaxial cables feel and look good quality. The phone cable is the standard on supplied by everybody.
My problem, the phone socket is NOT for UK phones neither is the wall/input socket, well it is not for the 'flat' connectors on all our phones so beware ! The sockets on the APC is the same size as an ADSL socket. . . . maybe I should have read the spec a bit closer and not go on the picture on the APC.
I'm keeping the APC because it is a quality product . . . . and because I have Belkins for the phone lines. I will most definitely consider APC next time.
The BT box on my wall has a data (ADSL socket) and a phone ('flat' / old socket) line. These are the new boxes installed by BT for the new fast internet. It will help if APC can provide for both lines in the same product.
