Having bought the much praised first Troubleman album 'Time out of Mind', I couln't wait to hear this, his follow up album. 'The First Phase' doesn't dissapoint. This is a more eclectic mix of ambient electonica ranging from funk inspired tracks like 'Intergalactic You, Intergalactic Me' and 'Carambola' to the chilled trance of 'Stereo' with the beautifully soulful vocals of Kirsty Hawkshaw. With the absence of the bosa flavoured tunes and vocals of 'Time out of mind', 'The First Phase' is a more pure electronic album, with plenty of bleeps and breakbeats amongst the ambient soundscape. 'The First Phase' is a collection of older and new tracks by Troubleman, as a result the album is less polished than 'Time out of Mind', however the production is as pin sharp as ever. If you're a fan of electronic music and liked 'Time out of Mind', don't hesitate to buy this album too.
Loved It. I had heard of Troubleman and noticed a few tracks by Azymuth so I grabbed a copy for £1. It's got some dope beats in a breakbeaty funk based way and, almost touching on Nu-jazz. With Kirsty Hawkshaw on one of the tracks also it brings a level of quality that you would expect from top producers of breakbeat, broken beat and Nu-jazz artists. It's fresh, modern sounding, edgy and pretty stylish. Well worth £1
