As a 15 year old, it seems unlikely that someone my age would buy this album. Well, I bought it and I wasn't disappointed. The best song has got to be Mad The Swine, although on my album, a crackle on the original LP caused the start of the song to be faded in so you can't hear it. The other songs seem very good, 'Earth' being the best. Unfortunately, Blag is not as good. Freddy Mercury (or Larry Lurex) seems to singing higher than usual on Going Back and I Can Hear Music, but I think that these could be better than the originals. Therefore, overall, it is a thouroughly good CD, albeit only if you are a hardcore Queen fan...
This CD gives a glimpse into the band that was to become Queen. Including tracks from Smile (Brian May, Roger Taylor & Tim Staffell) and Larry Lurex (Freddie Mercury) it is possible to hear the distinctive Queen sound taking shape, especially in the guitar of Brian May. The track "Mad the Swine" was originally intended for release on the first album (Queen) and later appeared as a B-side on the Headlong CD and 12inch singles. The cover of Dusty Springfield's "Going Back" was also featured in part on a remixed track, possibly on the "Made in Heaven" album (I apologise for not having the information to hand!). Customers should be aware that the order of the tracks on the CD may be different to that stated on the inlay card (at least it is on mine) but this does not ditract from the listening pleasure. Although the sound quality may not be up to modern standards (the tracks are about 30 years old) this album is an essential for all devoted Queen fans.
This album gives a unique insight into the early days of Freddie and the boys. Tracks by Larry Lurex and Smile give us a sound, which when joined up,transformed into the band we know today. Well worth a purchase.
Queen in Nuce is an Italian-only CD release contains rare pre-queen tracks. The quality leaves a lot to be desired, but it is an essential item for completists. It's authenticity has been questioned on numerous occasions, but this makes up the final piece in the queen jigsaw for collectors.
This is an extremely disappointing CD. I heard nothing that could justify issuing such a poor CD in the name of one of the all time greatest groups. Lets make some money by trading on a name! The best thing about this CD is track 10, because there is not a track 10
