In the beginning, there was a new singer with an unusual name, Elvis Presley, who beat out the rhythm on an acoustic guitar, a nimble fingered lead guitarist, Scotty Moore, a down to earth drummer, D J Fontana and a mischievous base player Bill Black and together they made music that changed popular culture in a way that has never been change since. 60 years later, the music of Elvis Presley still thrills the world, with the sophistication of backing by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. 1956 it was all much more simple, especially on those tracks that originate from the Sun sessions recorded prior to 1956, yet it is on this simple foundation that a legend was built.

Opening with Blue Suede Shoes, the album starts with a power house performance that was to characterise not only most of all the albums that followed, but also Elvis's concerts. Like the concerts the listener is taken on a musical journey, with the pace changing to fluctuating between heartfelt ballads like ("I Love You Because", "Blue Moon") and the country blues rockers. ("I Got A Woman", "Tying To Get To You", "Tutti Frutti")

One of the important aspects to this album historically is the use of material originally recorded by coloured musicians. The humble, white, country boy began to break down those racial barriers without the need to make any political statement.

The true value of this music is that it will still be listened to in another 60 years time. In fact it has already stood the test time, something that Mr / Miss X Factor Who, will never ever achieve.

In the beginning, music was made by the talented and the talented made music that endured.

Elvis didn't really made albums. His debut is his best, but can't compare to Bo Diddley, Bill Haley or Chuck Berry.
