Jimmy Carr is very very good at being very very bad: his jokes are cruel and poke fun at everyone you can think of but his charm and delivery make each one-liner a classic. The humour reminds me in places of Derek and Clive and of Mark Thomas' Sex Filth and Religion set - if you like those, you'll probably love this. Although not quite a traditional stand-up gig the show runs smoothly and each of the segments go well together: The small ads section of the show is particularly amusing and it certainly brightened up my day. The special features are good - his Variety Performance in particular: although he still uses much of the same material, his delivery has certainly improved over the years. As for the dvd, the menu's are good and the special features well thought out with Jimmy's voice over the entire thing and some great art design. All in all a great show, well packaged and a very funny man.
Highly recommended.

Having just seen this show, probably wildly cut, on C4 the other night, I have to buy this show.
I dont know why people are complaining about his style. His delivery is dry, yes, but that is his brand of humout. This isn't Ricky Gervais, much the same as Ricky isn't the Krankies!
So he may offend people, but that's the nature of humour. Derek & Clive (Cook & Moore) are far far more offensive, but came about in a time where political correctness had absolutely no bearing.
Yes, this DVD is full of 1-line gags, but it isn't supposed to be a sketch show, if that's what you want, you're looking for "The Fast Show: Live".
Make your own mind up about what you find funny, but this isn't like his annaesthetised TV shows, he is allowed to let his dry annoyance of the world run free, and it's all the better for it.
Summary: Not for those who are easily offended, much like any other comedy rated 18 or above. Use your common

Christmas 2004 saw two highly succesful comedians battle it out in the DVD market. The fantastic Ricky Gervais versus the fantastic Jimmy Carr and the verdict is there is no winner. Jimmy Carr makes a superb DVD debut and his stand up act is superb. The extra features are merely a break down of the show rather that added material but the actual stand up is the part that counts. Jimmy's foul mouth but witty charm combine perfectly creating a superbly funny act. Highly recommended.

This dvd is a masterpiece to put it at its best, jimmys style and personality make him one of the greatest stand up comedians i hav ever seen.I advise this dvd to any fan of channel fours distracton as this also shows jimmy carrs humour at its most funny, the dvd is for an adult audience only and through watching the dvd you will find out. jimmys whol style of rude and crude jokes followed up by the whole cheecky boy personality make this dvd perfect for comedy lovers .

Jimmy Carr is very much the "new kid on the block" and this DVD is a fine introduction to his comedy. His style is refreshing and the number of quick one-liners that he has written and learnt is extensive. His is smart and witty and this helps create a very amusing and enjoyable evening's entertainment. Ocassionally he makes the odd questionable comment and likes to push the boundries of what is and what isn't acceptable but this all helps create the comic that is Jimmy Carr - a man full of perfectly timed one-liners and humerous put-downs. This is guaranteed to make you smile.
Also the DVD has an extensive amount of extras which is an extra bonus.
Definitely worth a look.

One word to describe this DVD: A resounding "Ehhh...".

Thank goodness Carr's performances have improved since this effort. While this show is a good buy for a Carr fan, general comedy fans shouldn't bother. The show is basically two hours of one-liners, delivered with such regularity and lack of innovation that he might as well be reading from an autocue. The show is obviously completely scripted and well-rehearsed beforehand. Some of the jokes are funny, yes, but in 2004 Carr didn't quite have the experience and spontaneity that stand-up needs.

There are some great one liners in this DVD. If you like this sort of thing go for it. If you like a bit more sophisticated humour then this might not be for you.
