Comparing this new director approved transfer to the old artizan special edition dvd it is a huge step up in sharpness and a lot of scratches and flecks have been removed. However there are some digital artifacts that appear in the first 10 minutes (in particular over arnold head and face when he is having breakfast at home) that are very distracting. Thankfully they do not last. They were not on the artizan transfer at all and neither are they as prevelant on the dvd that comes with this blu ray release (which seems odd because it is the SD version of the new director approved transfer). Anyhow the rest of the film looks good, there are still some soft shots and some smearing here and there but it looks way better. The great commentary from the artizan release has been brought across as well as a new interview with Verhoeven and some making of featurettes.
Dissappointing early scenes but well worth it overall.

A good solid film , I enjoyed it at the cinema back in 1990. Acting a bit wooden , but still a classic sci-fi movie . Haven't seen the remake yet , I'll get around to it .

Have always loved this film even though I have seen it many times so that is why I ordered it. Great storyline and lots of action.

The lead character is a hard-as-nails former mining worker on Mars, who has uncovered some information on the boss of the mining company, and his company's shady dealings on the red planet. An alien race, long dead, had built a massive machine, still capable of regenerating the atmosphere of Mars, to make life possible for humans without the need for artificial life support systems. To keep him quiet, his memory is manipulated, so that he remembers nothing - for a while. Then he begins to recall flashes of his past, which grow into 'Total Recall'.
As with any Arnie film, there is plenty of action, both on earth and on Mars. A thoroughly good buy, but stay alert - the trick is to tell fact from fiction!

Anyone that’s reading this knows what a great film this is. Blu ray viewing just makes it that much sweeter.

Hasn't dated one bit. So much more fun than the remake, which is utterly devoid of humour.

Schwarzennegger hams-it-up perfectly, and the movie is almost purposely designed around him.

Bears little resemblance to 'We can Remember it for you Wholesale' - Phillip K. Dick's story, but who cares?

This is so much better than the modern versions.

It was and still is an original sci-fi storyline. A fast paced thriller with plenty of stunts/special effects

Another Arnie muscle show by now his acting had improved and one cannot help comparing it with the much inferior remake to realise special effects improvement cannot cover up a poor cover version

I had a older DVD copy of this and having this on blu-ray with DTS HD Master Audio is a great improvement. There are a lot of extras included with this steelbook and if you are a fan you will appreciate them. Don't expect this to keep up with the current blockbusters but this is as good as it gets for a movie that was made in 1990. Cheers.
