This was Chris Benoit's homecoming after defeateing HBK and HHH at Wrestlemania XX. The main event is a repeat of that triple threat match, only now Benoit is the champ instead of HHH. The ppv itself, a Raw one, is in many ways the Wrestlemania rematch event as many feuds festering from there are continued. The matches are:
Shelton Benjamin vs. Ric Flair (3/5)
Tajiri vs. Jonathan Coachman (2/5)
Chris Jericho vs. Christian & Trish Status (4/5)
Women's Championship Match
Victoria(c) vs. Lita (3/5)
Hardcore match for the Intercontinental Championship
Randy Orton(c) vs. Mick Foley (5/5)
#1 contender for Tag Team title match
The Hurricane & Rosey vs. La Resistance (1/5)
Edge vs. Kane (3/5)
Triple Threat match for the Worls Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit(c) vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (5/5)
I won't ruin anything incase you haven't seen this but it's a pretty solid ppv. The main event is great, although not as good as the Wrestlemania XX one, and the Foley/Orton fight is something else. Mick at his hardcore best and Orton proving he could very well be the next Triple H.
Good to see Benoit getting the reception he deserves as well.

Backlash comes from Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The crowd obvioulsy go crazy for Benoit (it IS his hometown and all).
1: Ric Flair VS. Shelton Benjamin
Edmonton, Alberta seems to have a lot of Nature Boy fans. A good opening match. No Tag Team title defense tonight though. 7.5/10
2: Tajiri VS. The Coach
The Coach actually pulls off a few wrestling moves in this match. I didn't think this match would be as good as this. 7/10
3: Handicap Match
Chris Jericho VS. Christian and Trish Stratus
The rivalry continues in this Handicap Match. This was basically a Wrestlemania rematch, but Trish does get in the ring a few times. 8/10
4: WWE Women's Championship
Victoria (Champion) VS. Lita
Quite a good women's match. The crowd didn't know who to cheer for as both of these women were crowd favourites. 7.5/10
5: No Holds Barred Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Randy Orton (Champion) VS. Cactus Jack
What a match this was. They used everything (and I mean everything) on each other. Chairs, trash cans, thumbtacks and a lovely bed of barbed wire. Cactus jack is announced as 'Mick Foley', I thought it was supposed to be Cactus Jack. He also comes out to normal Foley music. Anyway, this match is great. 10/10
6: La Resistance VS. The Hurricane and Rosey
This was a gap-filler between the insane carnage of the last match and the Egde/Kane match. 5/10
7: Edge VS. Kane
Edge's first match after about 14 months of being injured. Could have been better, but still an okay match. 7/10
8: Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit (Champion) VS. Shawn Michaels VS. Triple H
This match was longer than the Wrestlemania match (just over half an hour). The crowd doesn't like it too much when Michaels has Benoit in the Sharpshooter and EARL HEBNER comes out to referee. What is it? About six and a half years ago? Meh. A great match, equally as good as Wrestlemania.
Overall, a great PPV.

1. Shelton Benjamin vs. Rick Flair- This was a good way to start the ppv. I liked how we got alot of flair fans and alot of shelton fans. THe match was well paced and it was a good way to get the crowd started up. Good match. Winner Shelton Benjamin. Match Rating 8/10

2. The coach vs. Tajairi- Were did this come from. This was a horriable story line. The coach cant wrestle and if you are going to have tajairi wrestle at least put him in there with someone who has decent talent. Ok match but just a filler. Winner the coach. Match Rating 4/10.

3. Y2J vs. Trish and Christian in a handicap match- I really liked this match. First of it had alot of intensity coming in to the match because of there wrestlemania match. It was well booked so the crowd was not out of it because of the last match. Good paced action. I did not really like the end because it ended out of the blue. Still a good match. Winner Chris Jerico. Match Rating 8/10.

Victoria vs. Lita for the womens title- This was an above average womens match. It was great to see lita back in the ring and wrestle. It was just a decent match but above average for a womens match. Winner and still womens champ Victoria. Match Rating 6/10.

Mick Foley vs. Randy Orton ITC title match No holds Barred- Match of the night by far. This was non stop action the whole way this had a great storyline to it and brought the intensity to the match. Everything is used here tacks, barb wire bats trash cans more barb wire a sick table spot and just excellent action the whole way through. I wish Foley would have won but i can see why orton did and this started to lead to his title hunt. Winner and still itc champ randy orton. Match Rating 10/10.

6. La resistance vs. The hurrican and rosey- This was just an average tag match. I really hate the tag team division these days. There is not alot of talent at all. This was just to slow the crowd down after the last match it was decent. Winners the hurrican and rosey. Match Rating 6/10.

7. Edge vs. Kane- This was a preatty good match. I was expecting something a little better for edges return and also sience it is in canada. It was still good. Not alot to say about this match expect it was decent. Winner edge. Match Rating 7/10.

8. HHH vs. Shawn Michales vs. Chris Beniot for the WHT- This was the second best match of the night. This was not as good as there wrestlemania match but it was not far behind. I liked the idea to have this ppv in canada for beniot. It was preatty funny because hte crowd was more behind HHH than they were for shawn michales. Had a great spot were hebner came down and got booed bad to. Great match. Winner and still whc Chris Beniot. Match rating 10/10.

Well that raps up another. The rating that backlash 2004 will get is 80/80 which means it is an awsome ppv. It only got awsome by a percent but i would recomend u to pick this up. If u can tell me if you thought the review was helpful or not. Thank you for your time.

this has been wwes best ppv so far heres all the matches(from first match to last)out of 10
shelton benjamin VS ric flair 7/10 i found this pretty entertaining, and again flair proves he can still pull of a great match great opening match!great heel work from flair as usual
the coach VS tajiri 6/10(for entertaiment)not the best of matches due to coach not being a wrestler but coach pulls some surprisingly good wrestling moves off,and an upet too
christian,trish VS chris jericho 7/10
you gotta feel for jericho hes lost his best freind and the girl he loves in less than 3months....well thats the er...storyline anyway.this was a good match especially when jericho finaly gets his hands on trish
womens championship lita vs victoria(champ) 5/10 ok match although no feud or heat between the two
MATCH OF THE NIGHT INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP NO HOLDS BARRED EVOLOTION BARRED FROM RINGSIDE MICK FOLEY VS RANDY ORTON(champ) 10/10 What a match this was, brilliant.where to start well theres a lot of heat between the two(hatred)and foley had been wantin this match for months just like the fans.orton gets the c**p beatin out of him.at one stage he trys to perform a rKO on foley.mick throws him on to w pile of tacks which stick into ortons arms, elbows, hands, back if you dont like blood stay away from this match.theres even a table wraped in barbed wire, orton gets thrown off the backlash set onto a table...what more could you ask for, mayby mick foley return full time then wed see more great matches like this
tag team la resistance VS rosey, hurricane 3/10why why!this was a last minute match and it showed!!the crowd was hot from the last match then wwe completly kills off the crowd noise with this.
kane vs edge 5/10
final encounter triple threat world heavyweight championship re-match from wrestlemania 20
tripl h v shawn michaels v chris benoit(champ)8/10great triple threat just like wrestlemania 20 theres lots of action, moves inside and outside ring and a criplercrossface on the showstopa hbk shawn michaels
overall id give this ppv 9/10

Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair 7/10

One of the up and coming superstars of the year taking on one of the best loved legends of the year pull off an impressive opening match

Jonathan Coachman vs Tajiri 3/10

I was surprised to how well Coach did in this match (he is a commentator not a wrestler) but this match still should have been left off the card

Handicap Match

Chris Jericho vs Christian and Trish Stratus 6/10

Not as good as the Jericho/Christian match at WrestleMania 20 but with the addition of the sexy Trish it has some funny moments but also some messy moments

Women's Title Match

Victoria vs Lita 4/10

To my surprise this was better than the Coach/Tajiri match. The two top women wrestlers in the WWE work well together but the ending kind of spoils it

Intercontinental Title No Holds Barred, No Disqualification Match: Evolution Banned from Ringside

Randy Orton vs Mick Foley 10/10

This has everything a hardcore fan could want, trash cans, barbwire, thumbtacks and hardcore legend Mick Foley. This is a match of the year candidate

Rosey and The Hurricane vs La Resistance (Sylvian Grenier and Rob Conway) 2/10

This match was made earlier in the night and it was a stupid match, I mean Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross were still talking about the Foley/Orton match through out this whole thing

Edge vs Kane 7/10

Another good match that felt a bit rushed and had no real purpose behind it but still a good match

World Heavyweight Title Triple Threat Match

Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels 10/10

This is a great example of a rematch being better than the original but why can't people forget the Montréal screw job 7 years ago involving HBK and Bret Hart (it was still being chanted during this match)

This is a great aftermath following WrestleMania 20 with some great matches including the intercontinental title match and the main event

Having bought this event again I forgot just how good it really was.
1) Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair - A good solid opener but then again what do you expect with these two. Flair puts on another classy performance and benjamin shows he can hang with the best of them - 7.5/10
2) Tajiri vs Jonathon Coachman - Coach was far better than I had anticipated, however, the match isn't all too great - 4/10
3) Chris Jericho vs Christian and Trish Stratus - A great match here but then again it always is when they meet. Trish takes some good bumps like always, great match - 9/10
4) Victoria vs Lita - A very good match between these two, and a got a decent amount of time - 8/10
5) Randy Orton vs Mick Foley - An amazing match with both men taking some huge bumps. Mick proves he's still got it and Orton earns the respect of most wrestling fans out there - 10/10
6) The Hurricane and Rosey vs La Resistance - A decent tag match with two solid teams, Eugene is pretty funny which helps - 6/10
7) Edge vs Kane - A bit of a disapointment, but Edge did have a broken arm. Kane was not the right opponent for him here - 4/10
8) Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - A great follow on match with all three men putting so much into it. A great cameo scene with Earl Hebner and HBK towards the end his hilarious and has the Candian crowd very worried - 10/10.
All in all this is well worth the buy. It was a great way to start the ppv year and was a worthy follow up to Wrestlemania 20.

WWE Backlash 2004 Match Ratings

1. Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair 4/5

2. Jonathan Coachman vs Tajiri 2/5

3. Chris Jericho vs Christian & Trish Stratus (Handicap Match) 4/5

4. Lita vs Victoria (WWE Womens Championship) 4/5

5. Mick Foley vs Randy Orton (Hardcore Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship) 5/5

6. La Resistance vs Hurricane & Rosey (No1 contender spot for WWE Tag Team Championships)3/5

7. Edge vs Kane 3/5

8. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit (Triple Threat for World Heavyweight Championship) 5/5

WWE Backlash 2004 is an amazing 2004 pay-per-view with a match candidate for match of the year e.g. Randy Orton vs Mick Foley in one of the very best hardcore matches of all time in the WWE. The match itself was bloody and brutal with a hole range of weapons used which included the likes of trash cans, steel chairs, 2x4 with barbed wire etc, this hardcore match should be talked about and Randy Orton proved that he can step up to the game.

Chris Benoit impressed the WWE universe when he defended the World Heavyweight Title against Triple H and Shawn Michaels in an epic Triple Threat rematch from WrestleMania XX. Chris Benoit was in his hometown and he wanted the hometown fans to believe that he could do it and he did by making Shawn Michaels tap out to the Sharpshooter.

Overall WWE Backlash 2004 is an amazing pay-per-view and should be everybodys WWE DVD collection :) :) :).

When I bought this, i only really got it because of 2 matches: Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley and the final encounter triple threat match, but boy was i worng!
To start off we had Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair, which although a bit dull in some places i was pleasently suprised with this match and no interference from Batista made this a great choice of a match to start, after about 10 mins Shelton hits a superkick off the top rope to win. 7/10
Backstage we have a Randy Orton interview.
Tajiri vs. The Coach
Don't be fooled by the quiet crowd i think they were as impressed as i was with coach's wrestling skills and a pop to him for taking a sick looking kick to the head into the turnbuckle. Tajiri sells his leg injury well and then thanks to Garrison Cade Coach rolls up for the victory. 6/10
Cred to wwe for putting the handicap match here.
Chris Jericho vs Christian and Trish Stratus
With a nice video package here we then start the match and Y2J and Christian start which starts a lot like their wrestlemania match until Christian tags in Trish when Jericho starts looking weak. The best of this match is at the end where Y2J puts Trish in the walls then Christian, but then flips Christian into Trish, hits a running enzurgurri and pins. 8/10
In Eugene hype wwe have him looking through a magazine and wandering into the womens locker room. He sees Molly who screams and Eugene starts dancing. This is a hilarious segment as it is so sad.
Womens Championship Lita vs. Victoria
Not being a fan of Lita these days i found this match too long and technical for women (not meaning to be sexist but Lita doesn't do technical) Victoria wins then Gail and Molly come out and assault the divas. 3/10
Here we are with best hardcore match of the night/year/slash last 3 years
Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley Intercontinental title
So much to describe just think of Foley, HHH Royal Rumble 2000 but with more barb wire and more use of thumbtacks!!! The highlight of the match was Ortons Backdrop right into the thumbtacks!! 10/10
Then we have an interview with the game himself.
Hurricane/Rosey vs. La Resistance
Alright but half the time the camerea focused on Eugene. Hurricane hits a suprise win for him and Rosey 4/10
Edge vs. Kane
Better then previous but big man vs. small man with broken hand, really? Edge picks up victory by using cast. 5/10
Main event
HHH vs. HBK vs. Benoit World Heavyweight titl
Great match and more technical then Wrestlemania although not quite so good. With one referee down Micheals has the sharpshooter locked in and down comes Hebner. Now with this in Montreal Canada imagine how this one went down (1997 Survivor series). YOU SCREWED BRET YOU SCREWED BRET etc. Benoit wins with the cross face on the game. 9/10
All in all definetly worth buying with Amazon having the best price for it. Lots of extras so buy asap!!!

I gotta say this was an awesome ppv to say the least, The Hardcore match and the Triple Threat rematch from WrestleMania were worth the DVD price alone.
Shelton Benjamin vs. Ric Flair 7/10
The Coach vs. Tajiri 6/10
Handicap Match
Christian and Trish Stratus vs. Chris Jericho 9/10
Women's Championship
Victoria vs. Lita 6/10
Hardcore Match for the Interconinental Championship: This match was worthy of ECW, Mick Foley in the best shape of his life to take on the self proclaimed legend killer Randy Orton. This had some of the most extreme moments i have seen in a WWE match since the 90's or the Shane-O-Mac days. Barbwire, Thumbtacks and Suicide dives galore in this match.
This match also gave me a huge amount of respect for Randy Orton as he didn't hold back when it came to taking it to the extreme especially for a pretty boy. Mick was in the best shape of his life in this match and you could easily see it as he was the skinniest i have ever seen him.
Top quality match and definitely worth buying the DVD just for this match as it is so intense.
Randy Orton vs. Cactus Jack 10/10
Number One Contender's Match for the Tag Team Championship
The Hurricane and Rosey vs. La Resistance 5/10
Kane vs. Edge 6/10
Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit 10/10
