What a smashing game! Two players pit their wits against one another in a 'cat and mouse' board game themed around the Jack The Ripper legend. There's nothing bloodthirsty about it, though. Quite simply, your role is either to escape as Jack through the police dragnet, or apprehend the villain if you are the detective (you play once in each role to complete a game).

What is really clever about the game is the number of permutations available to each player when devising their escape or deducing the guilty party. It makes the game pretty complex, but my 11 year-old son is well up to the challenge, and has scored a few victories against his Dad. There's an element of luck, too, but the main thrust of the game is to strategise, and try to anticipate your opponent's strategies and bluffs.

You need to be pretty disciplined at the end of each round in order to remove certain items from the board - in all the excitement its easy to forget! - but once you've got the basic rules and understand the gist of the game, its really great fun.

I don't know whether the game can be properly described as 'educational', but in terms of analysing, calculating and strategising your options, it offers a pretty good brain workout for young and old.

This is a great little game for 2 players. One person plays the detective and the other Jack. OK so Jack the Ripper is hardly a happy theme for a game but it's not a problem and kids will not know about Jack the Ripper anyway so Mr. Jack is just a generic 'baddie'.

The board is a basic 'map' of some streets of London (not real or to scale) and you take turns to move characters around the streets trying to either escape the area (if you play as Mr. Jack) or discover which character Mr.Jack is by deduction/elimination. In that sense it's kind of a mix of Cluedo and Chess but much better than either, and much prettier to look at and play with.

Yes the first game or two you are finding your feet but that's not unusual for anything more complicated than Ludo. We sometimes forget Monopoly has a lot of rules but it doesn't seem like it because we've played it so much.

Remember it's 2 players only so it won't get played as much as something like Ticket to Ride or Carcassonne. But this is a great 2-player game. If you enjoy this then check out Bruno Cathala's other games on 'Board Game Geek' website.

This is as good as they hype suggests it is. Easy to learn, hard to master. A quick 15-20 minute 2 player game that uses light strategy and tactics on both sides, cay out avoid being detected? Can you throw off the hunters and escape the board? Or can you track down Mr Jack and use your team of investigators to narrow the options as quickly as possible. Highly recommended.

Beware! I ordered from seller "Mediazone", and there are no English instructions - despite the product information here. The best the seller could do was give a pdf link to an old version of the game (which is mostly the same, but not entirely).

Game itself is very fun though.

It felt ridiculously complicated at first but after a couple of games my partner and I had got it and were really enjoying ourselves. I recommend watching YouTube clips to help grasp how to play. All worth it.

I have played this numerous times since buying it a few weeks ago and it gets better with practice. The first couple of games took a couple of hours but now most games are over in less than 30 minutes and it always plays differently so you don't get bored.

Great quick game for two, simple to learn and get right in to the play.

Played several games of this already and it plays different each time.

My fiancé and I played this for the first time last night, it did not take long to set up and once you've read the instructions through a couple of times it is very easy to play, we loved it!
