Disneys great classic from the fifties can still hold its own today. Great acting and fine special effects from a time were cgi had never been imagined. The giant squid attack is superior to much of the cgi of today. Bonus material is excellent. There is an original sequence of the squidattack and a small documentary about Humboldt squid. great value for money

This movie is based on the book by which was one of the first science fiction writers. It is fiction based on fact as a lot of the things used in the story were around at the time of the middle eighteen hundreds. The story also loosely uses and discusses using the natural resources of the planet for food and for energy. It also mentions nuclear power. There is both a conscience about the environment as well as an amusing story.
There is the odd comic song based on a play on words. It is a Disney made movie for children and adults . Wonderfully creative ways in which the story is told. The backgrounds and machines would be true to the period they refer to. Fabulous product. Thanks

This film has always been a classic and I've seen it, on and off, over the years on television. The original cinema-going audience must've been in for quite a treat, as some of the special effects (And the staging) still looks great today!
Highly recommended. To think at the moment (July 2016) that Kirk Douglas is still with us, gives an extra sense of poignancy to the film - what great acting from ALL the cast. Well worth repeated viewings.

This is an excellent DVD version of Walt Disney's production of Jules Verne's classic novel. All the actors are well cast and the story is spectacular and visually stunning.

When I first watched this movie at Klingenberg Cinematograph in Oslo ca. 1960, and we came to the point where Kirk Douglas plays the banjo to the tones of "I swear by my tattoo", at the same time as he twisted his butts, there was not a dry eye by the female audience! The movie is good too, and so is the story behind it!

Excellent film. No doubt about this. But where is the blu ray? Other excellent old action films have been released on blu ray. Just not good enough. Must do better.
