Top rate entertainment, a real classic. This film hasn't dated much at all. Charles Laughton is the merciless but able Captain Bligh, who is relentless in his mission to the pacific islands of Tahiti and doesn't hesitate to use the lash on any men who step out of line. Clark Gable as Fletcher Christian, his second in command is dashing, charismatic and fair minded with the crew. Eventually the voyage and Bligh's cruelty lead to a revolt on the ship.
This is the best and most watchable, version of the often filmed events from 1787, although it is semi fictionalized.

Superb and the best version 1935 with Gable & Laughton, so good I am buying it on blue ray to watch again and again.
Of course Amazon having all the knowledge of biscuit tin have marked it down as the 1962 version which starred Brando.
Amazon change the year to the correct one '1935 you are confusing customers with this incorrect titling.

Even if this is an 80 year old production, it is remarkably well done: as to content, I think it's more interesting that the later 1962 film with Marlon Brando and Trevor Howard, despite the technical superiority of the latter. The sound is pretty good thanks to the excellent diction of the actors. The lt. Bligh portayal of Charles Laughton is even more unsympathetic than Howard's but on the other hand the older film makes clear the stamina of the man and his ability in adversity : in fairness it should be added that this is entirely due to the producer's approach: in the 1962 film we are only shown a description of the journey back from Bligh's notes, while in the older film we see the day-to-day fight for survival of the castaways. Marlon Brando's Christian is a more compex portayal than Clark Gable's, the latter being the more idealistic character. Worth seeing.

Fabulous. So much better than the later versions with Marlon Brando (with an absurd foppish English accent) or with Mel Gibson. They just don't make 'em like that any more !

Clark Gable the rebellion against Charles Loughton Captain Bligh is a good story the original black and white version made in 1935 where Clark Gable settles on a desert island and the other mutineers and their families has there's no turning back as they feel for the rebellion for being classed as desserters. Captain Bliegh, however the wicked one.

Grim Charles Laughton and young and handsome Clark Gable in battle of minds, against a background that was certainly a reality in those days. The first part of the film is more engaging, while the idyllic life with pretty young ladies on an island is less interesting.

Charles Laughton - superb!

A ghastly experience it must have been to be forced into serving on HM's ships.....you would be gone for years at a time, that's even assuming you make it through the voyage of fiercely rough seas and a disease ridden ship.

I would recommend this version.
