this dvd is a must buy for any tenacious d fan!
this contains the recording of their gig from the Brixton Academy. there is nothing quite like seeing The D live and this dvd will have you singing along with their top tunes such as 'wonder boy' 'tribute' and you will also be met with the sight of 3000+ fans singing along with 'F**k her gently'
not only do you get to see the D play live you also get to witness their infamous inconcert videos which honestly are the finniest things that you can see. this all adds to the fact that the d are one of the best live bands ever.
but wait that isn't all! you also get to see the music videos for 'tribute' and the making of 'wonderboy' and still we are not done we also get to see a half hour long interview with the d.
so for tenacious d fans this is a must buy but even for normal fans this would be worth investing in

I would not normally bother my butt writing an on-line review but I was so blown away by this DVD that I just have to. Primarily I only bought it on the strength of the videos, on cable, of Wonderboy and Tribute and having seen Jack Black in School of Rock and Shallow Hal, etc. I thought the stuff on the DVD might be good for a giggle. It was BUT how impressed was I with the concert DVD??? Two men, acoustic guitars, no percussion, bass, backup singers.... doing a ROCK concert...No, it ain't right. But even my dog was gettin it on, and he's really hard to impress! The quality of the sound, the way the concert was filmed and edited, just brilliant. Played on a decent surround sound it's near as you'll get to being there. It was that good! (I'm not normally given to over enthusiasm but this concert was simply stunning..)
Forget the swearing, (somehow it just fits) AND BUY THIS DVD NOW, TODAY. You won't be disappointed.

The DVD is the perfect companion to the music CD - great to see favourite 'D' tracks being performed live at Brixton Academy, for example. Fans of Tenacious D will already be aware that their lyrics can often beexplicit or 'offensive', though I personally am entertained rather than offended by this talented duo. Some of the sketches on the video really are quite extreme, however, and definitely not suitable for younger viewers.
But I give this DVD five stars for the music more than anything else. 'Tribute' really is one of the best rock songs in the world.

Tenacious D, the self-proclaimed greatest band on earth, have given their fans a real treat. A full concert from the Brixton Academy in London, plus a extra feature packed disc, with all their videos, making-of's, TV appearances. The 6-part HBO episodes, probably the worth the price alone, top off this great DVD. If you have any sense, you'll buy this right now.

Very good product, very prompt dispatch and delivery and all in all a very satisfied customer as a result. On the product itself, funny the first time you watch but not something I will probably ever desire to watch again.

About 20% of this package is top quality side splitting stuff.
The video for Tribute is of course pure brilliance and the HBO shows are terrific.
The premise for the HBO series is that Jack and Kyle are two boorish, hopeless, overweight losers who play a satanic mix of cliché laden eighties fantasy metal and potty mouthed pseudo rap on their acoustic guitars. Firmly believing themselves to be the greatest band in the world they are a fixture at a small town open mic night where they play to the general bemusement and indifference of the tiny audience.
This is great, it works, it is terribly terribly funny.
This 2 DVD set comes unstuck when the boys are seen playing before massive audiences, indulging in ribs, groupies and hi-jinks on their plush tour-bus and generally living the dream. Slowly the horrible realisation dawns, they're not acting, they REALLY are like that.
The sparse one liners and occasional amusing situation are not enough to justify the copious extra footage. The 'D' actually work against themselves, the same songs are repeated again and again, until it is clear that what passes at first listening for spontaneous ad-libbing is in fact meticulously rehearsed and repeated in every performance.
So, amusing enough in a Spinal Tap meets Beavis and Butthead kind of way, but the 'D' need to rein in their egos a bit, one DVD with a bit of quality control would have been plenty.

Here is the first DVD from the greatest band in the world, Tenacious D.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass formed a band more than ten years ago that would change the concept of rock music forever. With their HBO show and one of the best songs ever written, 'Tribute', they found their way to stardom. One album later, they produce their first ever DVD...
'The complete Masterworks' contains footage of their live show at Brixton Academy, and behind-the-scenes footage of the D at video shoots and rare interviews.
The Greatest band on Earth - The Greatest DVD on Earth.

When you consider, for the price of this DVD, how much stuff is actually on the two DVD's that you is astounding. It almost feels like there is every peice of Tenacious D video footage has been put on the disc's.
There's hours of stuff here from studio footage, videos, HBO specials, MadTV appearances and....well just look at the track listing above! If you havn't heard of them then this DVD is a great introduction.
It's got tune's you can ROCK too, aswell as showing off the comedic style of Jack Black.
Oh yeah, the concert is good too. Two men with Two accoustic guitars rock Brixton. Groovey

Fantastic Dvd, It Comes With Two Discs, The first disc is for fans and the 2nd for psycho fans. The first disc has the whole live concert from brixton, london where the tenacious play a gig with hit songs incl Tribute and wonderboy. Disc 1 also includes five Hbo episodes. Disc 2 has a few hbo short films and footage of their tv apperances and it also incls the music videos for wonderboy and tribute, also the makings of both of the discs.
A little about the D.
Tenacious D are a rock band made up of Jack Black ( Lead Vocals, Guitar) & Kyle Gass ( Lead Acoustic Guitar and Vocals.
Jack Black Himself is quite a comdeian and has alos appeared in many films, The Cable Guy, High Fidelity, Orange Country and he played the lead man in thre farrley brothers Film Shallow Hal, 2004 is defientley a year to look out for him, he plays the lead ina new comedy film called School of rock, the film has already been a hit in the states and is expected to be one of the comedy hits off the year. I have watched the film and it is a funny film, watch out for it in Feb 04, it also features a song by Jack Black and the kids in the film called also called school of rock which is expected to be a top hit.
Kyle has also appeared in a few films in short roles like shallow hal.
Tenacious are not to evreyones taste, the D swear quite a bit, but it is all in good humour and the dvd is a 15, their songs are brilliant, one of my personal favourites is F*** her gently and wonderboy is also a great song. i learned of tenacious d after listening to thi ssong on a music chan(kerrnag) on sky and have loved the D ever since, Tenacious also have a album out, you may want to buy that before you purchase this dvd.
