This is a great album if you know what to expect. Don't expect the raw passion and soul of the likes of Live in Harlem, this is far more polished and smooth. I think that is slightly to the musics detriment, but that may because I love the feel of 'Harlem' so much. Sam's voice is just as great here, but as other reviewers have noted, this is for a different crowd and the album has a much more jazzy feel to it. It is worth listening to for another side of Sam and how he could perform. However he performs it is still a five star performance as always!

One of the best live albums performance wise,(James Brown Live at The Appollo is the best by a mile) only spoilt by a lack of continuity. These days it would no doubt have been a double album and include all the linking material.

Just make sure you get hold of the correct copy of this album if you have a player that is capable of SACD replay, as this is one of the best examples of SACD done well that you will hear. (I think I am right in saying the SACD version comes as a digipack only). The atmosphere in the venue is palpable with the chink of glasses etc. but the real treat is the sound of the Sam and the band. Spectacular.
