For all you skaters back in the 80's this was THE film to watch.
It put skatebording on the cool map and although with the now dodgy 80's haircuts and lumo glo clothing it remains a classic. With its Romeo and Julliet esque storyline including characters with names from the Daggers gang like 'Monk' the punk, and Hook the hardcore punk skaters with their opposition nice guy valley boys. Corey who acted in the Goonies is the romantic hero who skates ramps, pools and the gnarly downhill and wins the bad guys sister - awesome. Maybe not really todays younger breed of skaters film but fun nonetheless.
The film also has cameo rolls for Skaters such as Per Welinder, Tony Hawk and features other skaters such as Christian Hosoi, Steve Caballero and Tony Alva and i'm sure you can spot a few more.
Even cooler, who is on stage at the skate party? non other than the mighty Chilli Peppers as youve never seen them before. The Circle jerks also feature.
Thrashin is also a continuity mans nightmare, the film is packed with little errors, wheels poping off decks, hairstyle changes, wipeouts, you could spend a while winding backwards and forwards.
But all in all a fun lighthearted film bringing back those bright coloured clothes with glo pads and retro boards. Remember those years when wipeouts didnt hurt as much as they do today and you were cool if you were uncool?
Best Line
Once the Valley boys take the roof off of 'Bozo's' car he is told that he now has a 'Cabriolet' said Cabryolett (not the French way)and he responds by asking what that is with the answer 'Its Hungarian for fast car'
Check it out.

Thrashin' is the age old story about a boy who falls in love with the rival gang leaders sister, with skateboards, and bodacious haircuts and clothing.

Plotwise, it's really nothing new, a sort of West Side story struggle, with the conclusion ultimating in a race called the LA Massacre, which just involves lots of people on Skateboards going really fast.

If Corey wins this race, he will become the face of Smash Skates or some other name. The thing is, The daggers leader doesn't like Corey going out with his sister, so he invites him to 'joust' which involves them chasing each other with a small bean bag on a stick.

Corey breaks his arm, ooooo, I wonder if he will win and become friends with the brother and get the girl at the end? I really don't know....

It's a typical eighties movie, made watchable by the likable cast and the admittedly good stunt-work and editing.

We have the usual breaks in plot to show off the fancy moves, and the final sequence involves lots of people flying in the air and landing in trees.

Brolin is great as the lead, and it's bright fun stuff to watch.
