Are you guys Serious????????
on 12 March 2002
I'm going to presume that all the people saying that this game is great are very young. The "wonderful Graphics" are not a significent improvement on H & D, which was about 4 years ago, so anybody old enough to remember that game will be left thinking that the graphics are then at best average.
This game is quite clearly for children who want to play soldier, the level of "tactics" is virtually non-existent, with you spending most of your time watching your comrades employ tactics last used on the Somme, and when you finally get to control a squad you realise that the severely limited control you have over your men is woefully inadequate, the vehicle missions are a complete waste of time as they are so seriously inferior to virtually all other vehicle sims on the market, that they are just something to be put up with rather than enjoyed. It becomes clear that this game is meant for the 12 year old fraternity when you actually employ some tactics and find you can walk around the side of the enemy and then stand behind them and kill them all as they will not react untill they have completed there rather linear movement programmes.
The problem with this game is not the idea, it is a very, very good idea, the problem is that this game had to be so seriously cut down to work on standard pcs that so many corners are cut it really comes across as dull and glitchy.
If you have a pc in line with the recommended specs on the box, you'll probably be used to games like this, but if you have a new comp, you will think that this is at best average. As I said it's a great idea for a game, but if it had been programmed properly it would have not run on most people's machine.
This game is at the bottom end of OK, as alot of other offerings in this genre are hopeless, but it really isn't worth the cash at the mo, even with the patches you still scream at the huge chunks of programming missing, especially on AI which is at times shocking. Instead save up to upgrade your PC so they can make the sequel properly, which would no doubt include the game coming out on DVD and requiring a very, very fast system. Flashpoint 2 (not the add-ons) if it comes out in a couple of years (which it should) will most likely be stunning, this game however isn't.
