This DVD is another of Attenboroughs cash ins on the current weather issues. As we are heading into another Ice Age, is it any coincidence that Dave has another telly programme about the same thing? Having said that, there is lots of well staged scenes of animals playing in the ice and snow, some of whom look completely out of place in the cold.
The scenes of polar bears fighting over a whale's stomach bone are shocking and remind me of some of the snowy levels in sega's classic game, 'The Sonic Hedgehog'. It is also typical that Dave now sends cameramen into the cold weather with the stunt animals while he stays in the warmth and just commentates over the top.
If the places they film really are as cold as they make out they are then I can understand that keeping the talent out of harms way is essential. People are not allowed to travel to the antarctic if they have a cold or other such germs. This is because of the danger of sub zero sneezes. The tiny particles of germ ridden snot turn into little poison dagger dart ice stabbers that can blind or kill or even pass on the cold, which is more likely.
A whole town of Eskimos was wiped out after an ice tourist brought a strain of the common cold to them in 1975, more of the victims were killed by snotty ice shards than the actual virus itself though and pictures from the scene seem more like the film 'The Thing', starring Curt Rustler.
