I have a lot of time for The Art of Noise. I wasn't that into them during their 'hits period' of the 80s but really enjoyed their ambient album at the end of that decade. The new material is fantastic too, with something for everyone, looped around the glorious melodies of Debussy. The recent album had the voice-over talents of John Hurt leading you through the tracks, unfortunately the live shows on this DVD have Paul Morley trying to do the same, and losing this review at least 1 star in the process. For someone so literate I am surprised that he cannot get his words out, he sounds so out of place and distracts from the beauty of the music. For long periods he appears to have nothing to do but bounce around the stage like a drunken uncle at a family knees-up. He even resorts to reading a book during one interlude. Why not get off the stage...or at least invest in a set of maracas?
Oh well, the music is blissfful at least.

This AON live concert DVD draws heavily on the Debussy album, which I love incidentally. Concert footage comes from at least 3 different shows and is intercut frequently within songs, lending the whole thing a rather disconcerting air as we ping pong back and forth between evening performances indoors and at a daytime festival slot in the US. I am a big Paul Morley fan usually, but here he irritates the hell out of me: he takes on the narrator's role ( John Hurt on the studio Debussy) and makes a pigs earhole of it. The audience seem nonplussed in general, until we get Close to the edit and Beatbox at the end.
