Excellent continuation of the speed and spirit of the Yes Please album. No, it's better. At this album Fourplay succeeds in keeping up that addictive style that combines funky rhytm with creative smooth jazz. Bob James is not getting older yet.

Fourplay are four respected US musicians who join forces periodically to record music that is usually referred to as smooth jazz. You can expect complex arrangements, tight rhythm tracks and the occasional solo. And in this regard, Heartfelt doesn't disappoint. There are three ballads, including the standout title song by Bob James and the final number (Making Up) written by Clapton's bass player Nathan East. The rest is a funky but mellow affair with gentle, bluesy melodies and foot-tapping grooves. If there's anything missing, I would say that, sadly, the Fourplayers never really let rip. Which is a shame, because their collective musicianship would warrant it. Great 'background' music, perhaps, but is it great in the foreground? On the whole, of this recording I would say Yes.
