I bought this cd when it was released in 2002 and instantly dismissed it. I thought apart from tracks 1 and 10, the music lacked emotion, clarity and power. I found acts like Skycamefalling, From Autumn To Ashes, Converge and more recently Since By Man fulfilled my muscial tastes and thus this cd was pushed to the bottom of the pile next to Vision Of Disorder and The Hurt Process. However...
With the release of their new album imminent, i decided to give Tear From the Red another chance, and thank god i did. For some reason now this cd exudes immense intensity while at all times containing dark melodies and very emotional vocals. Everything fits and nothing sounds 'sell out-ish'. I listened to Finch after Tear From The Red and it sounded amateurish, weak and commercialised. This cd is now part of my favourite metalcore cd's and their new album is sounding very good from the few tracks i've heard so far.
If you are approaching this album after hearing 'Opposite of December' then like most you're in for a slight shock. There's far more melody and a much wider vocal range but its all executed with vigour, so it doesn't sound commercialised, but emotional. The drum work is very insane and powerful, almost hypnotic in places.
All in all this is a very fine cd. The best tracks have to be tracks 1, 3, 7, 8 and 10 with tracks 2 and 5 close behind. Track 9 is a 1minute interlude and track 6 is a sappy ballard. 8 tracks out of 10 can't be bad.

Compared to the opposite of December this is a softer album, the vocal range of Jeff the lead singer has greatly improved and this is well demonstrated on the album, he has the ability to scream mentally then turn it into a melodic sing in the space of a second. There are no particularly stand out tracks on the album, the greats of artists rendering of me and slice paper wrists are not repeated on this album. I was expecting to be amazed by the album due to all of the hype and the sheer brilliance of December, I was not disappointed but I was neither amazed. If you are just getting into the well then I recommend buying the opposite of December and the first album distance makes the heart grow fonder. There is also the inclusion of an acoustic track on tear from the red called horns and tails which to be honest is a waste of a track, Jeff does have the voice to pull it off well but it sound empty and lifeless compared to the rest of the album which at times is quite intense, the lyrics for this track are also very poor. I am not saying that you should not buy this album because it is still amazing, however I personally was expecting a bit more.

this is a class album, great heavy breakdowns, shattering screams and superb spine tingling melodies and chorus' that are really heartfelt, its a heavy album but is not noise for the sake of it,it expresses plenty of emotions and rage and i love that ,do you ?

if you loved the opposite of december this really isn't going to disappoint you. the production is the same, the lyrics are just as beautiful and the riffs are still as hardcore yet melodic. botchla is a quality first track, and while a couple of letdown mediocre tracks (rings from corona, karsey street) exist, theres still the sheer brilliance of sticks and stones never made sense and the acoustic horns and tails. the artwork is wicked as well. :)
