Volume 2 of 'Live ... With a Little Help From Our Friends' continues the good work of Volume 1 which was released much earlier. Upon first finding it in the rack, I assumed that it was from another of the hardworking Mule holiday shows, but it slots it quite nicely with its predecessor. Again the good work is led by Warren Haynes, bringing a collection of like minds together to play quality rock with a muddy feel. As with Volume 1, there is a mixture of originals and covers, with 'Spanish Moon' being the favourite neighbour blaster for me. I never really got into Little Feat, but this will make me go back and explore, which is surely the function of good music. It stimulates and makes me want to broaden my education, understanding and appreciation. 'The Hunter' is another Free re-visiting by Govt Mule, and well worth the journey. As a studio band Govt Mule have shown a varied palette in their tempos and emotions, but it is their extended live work, such as on this album, which shows them as confident and accomplished experimenters on an exciting musical ride. Buy it, crank it up, and enjoy!
