The acting is teenage and the obligatory Catholic imagery and symbolism are transparent and not very imaginative. The turn-of-the-millenium angle makes this instantly dated, as does the relentless product placement. The cast is packed with stars, but all the characters are flat as Kansas, no offense, and the story ultimately goes nowhere. And yet, this movie takes itself way too seriously. The twist ending was great, but ultimately isn't enough to redeem this movie, especially as the only character of the bunch who could have carried this storyline is killed off too early to make a difference. Dracula 2001 is delicious eye candy, but not first pick if you're looking, no pun intended, for something with substance, because you won't find it here.

...on the vampire genre. Apparently Van Helsing never managed to kill Dracula, just to entomb him in a high security vault only to be unwittingly released by thieves in the year 2000. So what we have is an updated and stylish vampire movie featuring the original vampire!
Maybe the plot is a little simplistic, but this is a decent romp with a couple of interesting 'revelations' about Van Helsing and Dracula, and a nice bit of vixen-like behaviour from Jennifer Esposito and Jeri Ryan.

this film is brilliant, i loved it.the dvd came in imaculate condition. the film itself portrays the dracula story from a different perspectus and is totally brilliant.gerry butler plays dracula in a way that his actions speak louder than words.i recommend this film, its not blood and guts ,nor is it romantic slush......its just brilliant. hats off to wes craven!

Two things are essential to get anything out of this film: beer and company. Its that kind of flick. But given those circumstances its great fun. Stylish and sexy enough to make up for the whole intrinsic silliness of the thing. Dracula himself broods admirably and the secret of his true identity, whilst hardly profound, is a nice idea and diverting enough.
Given that this isn't a particularly serious film I didn't find the product placement too annoying, even funny, but it couldn't have been more obvious if they'd had van Helsing simply confessing his love for Richard Branson and thanking him for everything.
