If I could distribute half stars it would be 4,5 stars for Rain of a Thousand Flames.

But the title track and 'Queen of the Dark Horizons' is what ignites the fifth star.
'Rain of a Thousand Flames' (the song) is an extremely catchy tune and an incredible burst of energy and aggression, on a different level than anything Rhapsody had done before. I'm going crazy every time that keyboard solo takes flight. The song is totally ecstatic. 'Deadly Omen' starts off nice and cute but soon takes on a dark and sinister atmosphere just like that title indicates and is a perfect prelude to... 'Queen of the Dark Horizons' is a lengthy epic masterpiece that paints incredible images in my mind. Absolutely perfectly composed. From the soaring chorus to the dramatic "ROSA NERA SUSSURRANTE"-part, to Fabio's theatrical narrative part that suddenly turns into soft singing is all some of Rhapsody's finest moments. The intro of 'Tears of a Dying Angel' may just have the most "warlike" sound ever. Marching drums, dramatic orchestral phrases and epic vocals proclaimed with pride lets you know that battle is imminent. However, a lot of the song is filled with a long narration, that comes dangerously close to sounding totally ridiculous, rather than dramatic. Through 'Elnor's Magic Valley' - a short medieval or Irish Folk instrumental we reach 'The Poem's Evil Page', not the best but a fairly memorable piece with soft and fast parts. 'The Wizard's Last Rhymes' closes the album with many interesting parts and a powerful chorus.

The darkness, aggression and drama of this album makes the famous 'Emerald Sword' seem pretty lightweight. Finally, the cover image perfectly reflects this dramatic piece of music.

another great Rhapsody Cd, easily up there with their best. This cd is worth the price for the first track 'Rain of a Thousand Flames' which is simply one of the most rip roaringly head banging metal tracks of all time, the type of song most power metal bands would shave their mullets for. seriously,if there ever was a great way to open an album this is it. utterly fantastic. Wizards last rythmes closes the album beautifully with its huge epic riffing.

Great Cd from a great band. Also get Dawn of Victory, Symphony of Enchanted Lands and Power of the Dragon Flame.

Just in case anyone was interested... the last track of this album, 'The Wizards Last Rhymes', is Rhapsody's incredible interpretation and adaptation of the last movement of Dvorak's Symphony No.9, Allegro Con Fuoco. Look it up on Amazon and listen to samples of both. It is a truly awesome track and a great way to finish another fantastic Rhapsody album!

Having had the first three Rhapsody albums for more than a year, getting 'Rain of a thousand flames' was well worth the wait! Although only 42 minutes, 'Queen of the Dark Horizons', and 'The wizards last rhyms' are both more than ten minutes long, and make the album!
