“In this house we do not use the F word, this is a toad!” [Harvey Denton]
on 21 January 2016
This 2000 dark comedy series adopts the same format as series 1 and carries on many of the themes but in this we also see the circus come to town as an epidemic of nosebleeds breaks out. There are some new characters, including Papa Lazarou, the circus ringmaster who steals wives, the German exchange students under the guidance of Herr Lipp and Benjamin returns to Uncle Harvey and Auntie Val’ house of frogs.
The first disc carries the six half hour episodes while the second disc has a 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary plus outtakes, alternative versions of certain scenes and a few other things added in.
This is darker, cruder and ruder with even more disgusting and disturbing characters than the first series and although the laughs are still there, there are many more innuendos here and the toned down ‘laughter track’ makes it seem less funny. With a weak start this only picks up in the later episodes and as such just misses the top marks.
