The "Princess Mononoke original soundtrack" (OST) stays - of course - close to the movie, thus presenting nearly all themes appearing in this motion picture masterpiece. The only problem (if you can call this a problem) with the OST is, that the tracks are mostly very short. Not the case with the "Symphonic Suite". Princess Mononoke doesn't offer many different themes, but those few are magnificent and completely covered by the Symphonic Suite's eight tracks. They are all terrific! The running time of each track is approx. 6 minutes, presenting the themes in all their glory. The interpretations are different from those of the OST, and they simply sound wider, richer and much more powerful thanks to the great work of the responsible orchestra. But they still stay close to their "originals". It's a disc to lean back, close the eyes and let the music do it's fantastic job, while all the beautiful images from the movie are coming back to one's memory. You don't have to skip a single track, which I found necessary when listening to the OST from time to time. As a conclusion, I would say that this disc is slightly better than the OST, although I would not want to miss them both. The Symphonic Suite - in comparison - contains no vocals, but what you get is pure quality and the best selection.
