This was coloratura soprano Patricia Petibon`s first CD released under her own name and provides an excellent showcase for her exquisite vocal talents.

As befits the French Baroque repertoire, Petibon brings a good deal of Gallic style to her performances taking small theatrical liberties here and there, but always in good taste to the benefit of both the music and the brief musical drama she seeks to convey; in the "Air De La Folie" from Rameau's opera "Platée" for example, she gives a delightfully unhinged spin to her character - "Madness" - rather fittingly. Nor does she miss the musical pathos of "David et Jonathas" on track seven and there is a wonderful sensuality to the way her voice intertwines with the baroque flute on track ten "Air De Phani" from Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes". Typically, there is a good deal of rustic charm in some of the arias and the band rises to the occasion with percussion, trumpets, those ubiquitous baroque flutes and a musette on at least one track.
The longest piece on the disc - a cantata-styled work by Grandval - liberally quotes other composer's arias and is quite entertaining, if a little slight in actual content.

All in all, this is an enchanting debut CD from Petibon, a good introduction to a rather quirky but talented performer and a good selection of French Baroque vocal music.
The running-time for the disc is just over 63 mins. Texts are in French with English and German translations.

If you enjoy the clips on "youtube" from Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes" , then this is the disk for you. Her voice combines superb ornamentation with clarity and purity of tone. As you can see I am a fan of hers !!

I bought this after seeing a documentary about the recording of the disc. Ms Petibon has an amazing voice, and the arias chosen for this recital are superb.

I just had to add to the five out of fives on here. This songbird is sublime and this was a discovered from a Facebook Classical Music friend in Australia who has an ear to what music he wants to die to. Her voice is beautiful and and one of the few modern singers who produces actual goosebumps whilst keeping with the intelligence of the piece. She is glamorous, sexy, pure and down to earth at the same time in real life and yet her voice is sublime and other worldly. I am here after a short break having her first few albums and this one is my favourite but I need to buy the latest three which I am doing right now!!!! I had no idea she had been so busy!! All in one go without hesitation. That is how good this singer is. Once found she is treasured by us lucky few. This is one of my favourite voices and favourite albums of all time. And the other three will be loved. She is simply adorable as an artist and a complete one off as well. Special this CD. And her generally. I cannot wait for the other three to be even nearing as good as this one. This CD could only be a five with anyone with ears and a musical intelligence and with feelings.
