Another outstanding movie soundtrack by Hans Zimmer
on 8 November 2012
For me this was the best and most gripping of all the "Hannibal Lecter" movies, while Hans Zimmer surpassed himself in composing music for the soundtrack that complemented this totally engrossing and at times emotional film. There are two tracks on the soundtrack CD which I play over and over again: the haunting track 9, "Let My Home Be My Gallows". It is only a shame that the music is somewhat "pushed to the back" behind Hannibal's sollloquy on Dante and Avarice. However, if one listens carefully enough with the volume control turned higher, for me at least, it reminds me so much of some of the sublime choral music composed by European musicians at the time of the Renaissance. And then there is track 12, "Vide Cor Meum", the "opera" performance in the film which (sound and visuals together) really hits the viewer in the eyes. Altogether, a fantastic complement to a brilliant film by Ridly Scott and unforgettable music by Hans Zimmer.
