One of the most obscure, forgotten and underrated bands, but extremely talented and intesresting, was formed in Detroit in 1968: Joe Periano (vocals/guitar), Bill Jones (bass/backing vocals), Bob Michalski (drums), Dennie Webber (Hammond organ). All and any reviews draw attention to the fact that the band was inspired by early Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin (acoustic), Black Sabbath, Cream... In fact, this is well-done concept album (not "Jesus Christ Superstar", but a true masterpiece), blending strong acid (psychedelic) rock with almost baroque music (appropriate for archetypal prog-rock), vocal harmonies similar to Uriah Heep... "In the night" was written under influence of "For Your Love" (Yardbirds). I would say that they stand closer to Iron Butterfly. Let's say, that it was the right band signed by the wrong label - "Power of Zeus" had a misfortune to be under contract to a Motown subsidiary (Rare Earth), which had no experience and didn't know how to handle a hard rock act. The only album was recorded in 1970, released, and the band dropped by the label. Solid, good work, worth every penny
