This lovely, folksy issue of John Fahey’s acoustic guitar arrangements of Christmas songs is a beautiful, warm and mellow collection of seasonal music. No added vocals, no tinsel or choirboys, no Bing Crosby... just simple, charming and mellow. Gentle, acoustic guitar, entirely appropriate to the time of year, to contemplate, relax and de-stress with.
If you’re looking for something different for Christmas music, fed up with ‘Carols from Kings,’ (don’t even mention Slade), and even Kate Rusby is losing her appeal, try this.
This is such a timeless, beautifully relaxed album you probably won’t want to keep it ‘Just for Christmas,’ because John Fahey plays so well you may want to listen to this album again and again.
This cd in fact contains two christmas albums, one a solo by John Fahey, and the other featuring duets with Richard Ruskin,so incredible value.Firstly,if you are unfamiliar with Fahey take note, the Kings singers or Charlotte Church this is not, these are carols and christmas tunes played by J.F.in his own style, acoustic guitar played so clearly, beautifully and spiritually,he gives new meaning and depth to tunes we've all heard so many times before. The quality of sound on the recordings are excellent too. Those of you who do know Fahey will understand when I say he takes us on a few of his journeys in his interpretations of these tunes which are wonderful, and in the christmas fantasy tracks the journeys become epic voyages in the style of Yellow Princess,Requia,America,The Voice of the Turtle etc..etc... So for Fahey converts this cd needs no selling, and those new to this master of the acoustic guitar a wonderful entry into the man's unique musical style.....for Christmas or any time.
