where do i start? well, i could start by saying that it is the most comfortable and aesthetically pleasing (what ever that means) controller ever created....
or that if you've ever played the bestestest game on the planet Sonic Adventure, you'll know that when you're spinning at break-neck speeds around the fastest part of speed highway, you are basically holding on to the controller for dear life.......
or that if you play on the almighty DC for too long, it becomes part of your hands and whenever you put it down, it feels strange, not holding the controller......
or i could say that it is considerably lighter than i thought it would be so, it makes for easier gameplay .......
or that the lead/cable clip on the back (if you dont like it hanging down) is a most unique and intelligient idea..........
or i could simply say it rocks!

a brilliant controller , fits into your hand perfectly , dont try any of the third party ones. This is the best and is worth the extra few quid. The expansion slots on it are genius aswell allowing for a rumble pack or VMU on it.

The official dreamcast pad I have to say is a very comfortable control pad which suits all types of games. The analogue stick is perfect for 3d games especially sonic adventure, and the D-pad is there for people who want to play 2d games etc. The triggers are very repsonsive especially in racing games. This is one quality control pad!

I haven't found any problem with the cable out of the "bottom" instead of the "top".. the top means that it'd constantly pull the pad downwards/away, but with it out of the bottom it means you can stand up and move the pad about more.. ideal for if you have all of your mates around for a good gaming session..
Also you can clip the cable up underneath the pad, there's a small groove that takes the cable, and makes it go under the pad and "out the back" like the other style pads with the wire out of the top..
All round a great control system, with a nice display with the optional VMU, and the vibration pack powered by the console provides a good thud instead of a lame buzzing that many rumble packs tend to offer.. also the batteries won't go flat as it's powered by the main unit.. an absoloute winner from Sega!

The dreamcast controller is comfortable, I know some people have argued other wise but I have to say for me it is next to the gamecube controller in terms of ergonomics. The analogue stick could do with being rubberised but it it doesn't suffer from being overly slippery. The VMU's are just cool! and with a vibration pack I think the feedback is superior to an xbox 360 controller or dualshock, it's much stronger and when you hit a wall in sega rally you feel it! In crazy taxi it vibrates lightly and quickly when you are stationary to mimic a running engine. The buttons are responsive and firm, they don't suffer from the squishiness some controllers have. The triggers are very firm which I find preferable to loose triggers, this all adds up to a solid controller that is great for playing games :)

Let me start by saying this is one of the best controllers ever. It has a great analog stick for 3D games (which could've been better with grip), and the D-pad is ideal for 2D games (Beat em ups being a prime example) which is why so many classics were born on the DC: Street Fighter Alpha3, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, Marvel Vs Capcom2 etc. Great feel of the buttons and triggers. I could only think of 2 things that could be improved: an extra trigger in the bottom right and 2 more buttons like the (Xbox controller). All in all I give it 9.5/10. If you find an unopened one snap up the cash.

Given that these controllers are official, they pretty much perform as you'd expect them to; by today's standards of controllers, they seem pretty clunky, but at the same time, they are still are relatively comfortable in the hand, although the lack of select button is a bit of a letdown, given that other controllers at the time had them.

Overall though, it is still a step up from the similarly shaped Saturn controller, and the fact that you are able to see the VMU output by looking at the controller does help things, as does the additional expansion slot, as it means that you're able to hook up the supported peripherals to the Dreamcast, with no additional ports needed on the system itself!

That said of course, I am incredibly biased towards the PlayStation controllers, so I prefer them over these, though I will say that these controllers don't feel quite as solid/sturdy as Sony's.
