There are many fine recordings of the Bach cantatas, and especially of these two lovely cantatas. I particularly like the recordings made over the years by the Bach Collegium of Japan, under maestro, Masaki Suzuki. BWV 147 and BWV 21 are sung here with great joie de vivre as well as with wit, exuberance and gravity. The Bach Collegium is a magnificent ensemble which seems to have a wonderful intuitive understanding of Bach’s music. Everything is pared down to the essentials in the way that Bach himself intended. Whenever I listen to this CD, I imagine the great man looking down from his place in heaven and saying with a smile, “Yes, that’s how I like it to be played.”
A superb cantata 147. Crisp, clear, both from the point of orchestral playing and choir/soloist performances. Highly recommended as part of any Bach Cantata collection. No point looking anywhere else than Amazon for a better collection of Bach Cantatas.
