Saw this on the tv, banned since 1983 one of the best samurai movies to be seen, the hero is the Emperors assassin but falls foal of the Emperor, he returns home to find his wife slain, the baby is still alive and he has to take care of it, the story continues as he wanders with his baby in a pram at the same time being attacked along the way by warriors sent by the Emperor, blood flies everywhere, excellent movie
ONE OF THE BEST FILMS EVER MADE! AN EPIC IN ITSELF. JAPANESE MEGA VIOLENCE AT ITS BEST, SHOGUN ASSASSIN IS THE STORY OF A SAMURAI AND HIS INFANT CHILD ON A REVENGE QUEST. I GIVE UP MY SEAT TO KENJI MISUMI AND ROBERT HOUSTON FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE SCREEN. THIS FILM IS ESSENTIALLY AN AMALGAMATION OF 3 OUT OF A 7 OR 8 FILM SERIES. LONE WOLF AND CUB: BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX; LONE WOLF AND CUB: BABY CART TO HADES (A CRAZY FILM); AND LONE WOLF AND CUB: SWORD OF VENGEANCE. IT'S A CONFLATION OF B MOVIE MEASTRO ROGER CORMAN'S NEW WORLD PICTURES AND THE FILM ITSELF IS ADAPTED FROM A SERIES OF MANGA GRAPHIC NOVELS CREATED BY THE SEMINAL KAZUO KOIKE AND GOSEKI KOJIMA. THIS IS THE STAND ALONE FILM THAT VIRTUALLY RECONSTRUCTS ( OR A MORE APPRECIATED WORD = "RE-ENERGISED" ) THE SAMURAI GENRE. IT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE TRADITIONAL, HONOURABLE SAMURAI EPICS LIKE THE ZATOICHI SERIES (ALTHOUGH KITANO'S ZATOICHI IS UNDENIABLY COOL) AND EVEN KURASAWA'S CLASSICS. KOJIMA AND KOIKE DID WITH THIS STORY FOR THE SAMURAI GENRE WHAT LEONE DID WITH THE DOLLRAS TRILLOGY FOR WESTERNS. THEY TOOK THE PARTS THEY LOVED FROM AN OLD, TIRESOME, ALREADY BECOMING STALE GENRE, RE-PACKAGED IT AND EXPLODED IT ONTO THE SCREEN IN A WAY WE HADN'T SEEN BEFORE. THIS FILM, LIKE LEONE'S DOLLARS TRILLOGY, IS IN ESSENCE A ROCK 'N' ROLL MOVIE. IT JUST SAYS 'SIT BACK, RELAX, SNORT SOME COKE, AND WATCH THIS MONSTER OF A MOVIE 'COS IT'S BIG'! THE DIRECTIGN AND EDITING IS SLIGHTLY DODGY. BUT THE SCRPIT AND ACTING IS UNDENIABLY POWERFUL AND SEDUCTIVE. AND THE FACT THAT THE PISTURE AND SOUND QUALITY IS MONO, SHREDDED AND DIFFUSED MAKES IT ALL THE MORE AUTHENTIC OF A B MOVIE OF THAT ERA. ONE CAN ALMOST WATCH THIS ALONG SIDE SHAFT, DRUNKEN MASTER, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MOER, HARD BOILED AND STILL GET ENTERTAINED AS HELL. IN FACT, I MIGHT JUST DO THAT RIGHT NOW!

Bloody as hell and engaging this old and dated film is on bluray, yes!a bit over the top with some very graphic deaths but otherwise has a certain old style charm.Following a assassin and his son through japan i believe this is mixed parts of the lone wolf and cub films.I love it!
This film is a classic eighties martial arts film primarily involving swordplay, it is very dated now but that is only to be expected, i remember watching this film as a youth ( too many years ago to mention ). If you are a die hard enthusiast of the martial arts then this is worth watching for the early fight choreography alone, there are no recognised stars in the film but that makes it all the more appealing.
This is an exelent box set! It comes with 3 of my favorite films from the Vipcos Vault of Horror series although i definetly think they should of put more films in it. Shogun Assasin is the first film in the set and is an amazing film! There is loads od spurting blood and almost non stop action but i find it very strange that it was put in the Vipcos Vaults of 'Horror' collection because it isnt even supposed to be scary in any way! The Mutilator is the second film and this is one of the best slashers in Vipcos Scream Time Collection! It has plenty of gore and creative death scenes! The usual faults that you dont seem to mind come as standard: no extras, bad picture quality, aweful acting, some unrealistic special effects and more. But that doesnt really matter as the film on the hole is great! And last but not least The Burning, which is even better than the mutilator! Tom Savini done the special effects for this instead of Friday the 13th part 2 so as youd expect you do get a fair bit of gore! The story goes on one of the simplest and most origonal storys to date: A man gets accidently set on fire by some kids trying to prank him, he lives though, only to have a badly misfigured face and a taste for blood and revenge! Then he goes on a massacre with a pair of hedge trimmers! He gets killed in a horrible way...The End. So if you can actually get your hands on one of these super rare box sets then do so immediatly! Unless you dont like violent or cheap B-Movies! (if you are one of these people then stay away, stay away for your ow good!)
