This CD is wonderful and has been exceptionally usefull for my A2 performance investigation; she plays so differently from many clarinettists and so gives me plenty to talk about. Hearing the 5 Bagatelles has been really good for my own performances too; I've learnt a lot by hearing another play the pieces.

This pair of CDs of clarinet music played by Emma Johnson has an amazingly wide perspective. It details her work over ten years from just shortly after winning the Young Musician of the Year. It contains a representative range of three concertos from the forty or so concertos in her repertoire, including an account of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. She has helped to raise Bernhard Crusell's profile, here represented by his Clarinet Concerto No 2. The jazz influenced Arnold Concerto No 2 is very interesting. The second CD is a recital compliled from a bouquet of clarinet music accompanied by harp for 'The Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite',and accompanied by pianists Julius Drake, Gordon Black or Malcolm Martineau in the works of 12 different composers. The music visits the clarinet in melancholy mood through to extreme merriment. In the recital I have some favourites, including Scaramouche Suite by Milhaud, and the popular 'Walking in the Air'. Moods and emotions are lovingly captured with great musicianship. The arrangements on the recital disc fairly represent the originals. This pair of CDs is very good value.

This is a lovely double-cd which shows us all the best from Emma Johnson. She really masters the romantic repertoire!
I'm most fond of disc two which contains two suites that is hard to find elswhere. The first is the music to the tv-serie 'The Victorian Kitchen Garden', the second is the 'Five Bagatelles' by Finzi. Here is a clarinet that really knows how to crept into your ear and caress both mind an soul.
Highly recommendable!

A friend is playing the clarinet at our wedding and this CD gives a good selection of suitable music for the instrument. Emma Johnson is well known for winning "Young Musician of the Year" some years ago and she is probably best known for "The Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite". It would not be everyone's cup of tea but it was ideal for our needs. Recommended if you like the clarinet and classical music.

This is a beautiful CD. I bought it mainly for "The Victorian Kitchen Garden - Suite" and that is beautifully played. However, the rest of the CD is beautiful as well with a multitude of other well known pieces. I'm glad I bought it.

The clarinet on this recording was excellent. However, to my mind, the overall quality was much reduced by a heavy and often intrusive piano accompaniment.

The tracks by Reade are a highlight. The entire collection is worth every penny.
