VINE VOICEon 24 June 2000
Lori toured this country with the eels, and I think she was intended to break up the in-your-face irony of the eels. She did this and so much more, I fell in love with her music, to the extent that not a day has gone by since the gig in March when I haven't listened to this album. Her voice is haunting and the melodies are infectious, whilst Breathe is just plain disturbing! I recommend this album to anyone who is into Beth Orton, Kristin Hersh et al.

excellent album from a singer/songwriter not really known in this country. But take a listen to this, from the beautiful Take your Time to the sublime Caroline, just relax and melt into these melodies. It has something special. Buy it.

Took this CD on hols with me - great to just lie on the beach and turn on. Really like 'Take your Time' and 'Stars'. Bought it on a whim but I recommend buying it if you're into Beth Orton or Katherine Williams.

Lori Carsons 'Stars' album is amazing, plain and simple. The only downside however is that once past track 6, it's easy to get lost and let your mind wander. This is such a shame as the first half of the album hits with some truly amazing songs. '16 Days' is a love song on depression, while 'Take Your Time' comes right after to brighten your day. 'Breathe' sounds like it escaped from the original Crow Movie Soundtrack, and the standout track 'Head In A Box', more than a few spurned lovers can relate to. 'Caroline' and 'Stars' are also very good, but after this the songs tend to melt into one another. For £6 its worth the buy, maybe you'll like the last half more than me, who knows.

when i bought stars i guess i was hoping for more, i'm a hardcore fem-rock fan i worship tori amos and have a few hundered female singer cd's ranging from Ani difranco to Kirstin hersh... i guess i thought i'd get something that was along the same lines
i was disapointed, after reading all the reviews and building up of this artist i felt that she was not so amazing she was pretty average, infact i thought that she was a little bit Jewel inspired or maybe she'd listened to fumbling toward ecstasy a few times before recoring this album. but i guess thats an insult because fumbling is 1000 times better than this, it's dull and sickly sweet.
i know that you can writeabout love, and that falling for someoen is a beautiful experience and that you want everyone to know but this was enough i couldn't listen to the album for long i figured that after the first 5 songs it wasn't worth owning-i want an album for an album not for one track and she didn't deliver one track i liked
maybe i'm a cynic
and maybe this album wasn't for me (i admit it took me a while to even like heather nova...) but i really didn't enjoy it
it's not my cup of tea but i think it will be others and i'm glad of that coz Lori has a good voice-it's strong and the guitar is impressive at times
