This film is fantastic, I had seen it before but it is a film you can watch again and again. Al Pacino is brilliant in this part, he should have won an oscar, he is a truly great actor. This film is very humorous in parts but also very sad in parts. I think the mix of emotions you feel when watching draws you into the film. The tango scene is wonderful and the music enchanting.

This dvd arrived in time and in good condition. Had to have a copy of this as I only had it on video. A good storyline and a good set of characters. Even though you wanted to leave him if you were in the story there was something vulnerable about him that made you want to stay. I would recommend this product.

Bought it to watch with my wife. She did not expect what appeared on screen. It was a very emotional ride and a feel good ending. The characters were well developed by all the characters with special mention for a young Philip Seymour Hoffman as the king rat. This was my second time and I still loved the film

Excellent film. Pacino does a rare thing for an American: he acts. His performance is scintillating, although not sure the turning point would have come so easily, if at all. Ignoring that, though, wonderful performance, only made sad by the presence of Hoffman and the realisation that we'll never see him again.

At the time of writing this review this film has been reviewed 30 times but none since this latest re-issue on Blu-ray. Is it worth an upgrade is the acid question? Unequivocally, the answer is `yes'! This is an excellent transfer of a classic film which bears repeated viewings. This film has been given a 1080p transfer and the picture quality is sharp with a pleasing colour palette. The sound quality is also excellent with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which produces a rich and clean sound - all the better to enjoy the beautiful soundtrack music of Thomas Newman.

The film's 157 minutes running time may deter some people, especially because the film deliberately takes a slow pace to allow the development of its characters. However, patience is rewarded by the excellent acting and there are some absolute classic scenes which you will want to watch again and again. The tango dance scene with Gabrielle Anwar and Slade's passionate defence of Charlie at the meeting of the disciplinary committee are 2 such scenes. This new release has a modern menu system with picture in picture chapter selection and you can also bookmark favourite scenes.

I can thoroughly recommend this new release of this wonderful, uplifting film.

First of all, Al Pacino's acting is amazing, really like a blind man, and his speech to protect Charlie brings me to tears. However just one thing that was not very convincing is why Charlie and his friend had to be accused in front of whole school? they are just witnesses! Strange!

Watched this when released in '93, and just bought the DVD, plus the soundtrack on CD, by the wonderful Thomas Newman.
Just one of Pacino's fantastic characters is contained in this movie, of which he deservedly gained an Oscar.
Still worthy of watching, 21 years later!

Not quite what the title suggests. It is however a very sensitive film and compelling watching. A once able bodied navy officer who has lost his sight and is befriended by a naïve young man. Any additional information would spoil "the plot".

This film is possibly...NO DEFINITELY...the best Al Pacino film ever made. He is not a gangster..not a hoodlum..not a cop..But a retired colonel ..What a brilliant part he plays in an unforgettable situation...I would advise you buy this dvd.

Love this film, Pacino is superb as always. Its one of those films with a fairly detached and odd title, which does not reflect the true brilliance of the film. One of those feel good classics, worth every penny and very well priced.
