Not To Be Confused with The current later Marvel Avengers series of movies. This is The movie version for The classic 60s TV series The Avengers. The Movie starred Then relatively newcomer Ralph Fiennes as agent John Steed and current box office draw Uma Thurman as Emma Peel. eagerly awaited by fans worldwide of The original series upon its release back in 1998 The movie would olso feature legendary screen actor Sean Connery as The usual villain bent on world domination. so where did it all go wrong ? The movie was savaged by The critics upon its release I for one always felt it was unfair. The Film manages To capture The same style as The TV series The performances of Fiennes and particularly Thurman as Emma Peel capture The characters created originally by Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg with That extra Touch of class just like The Avengers itself. True Avengers fans will know The movies plot is lifted heavily from The classic TV episode A Surfeit Of H2O. as villain Connery is hell bent on destruction by controlling The worlds weather. as The movies add proclaimed saving The World In Style Enter John Steed and The leather clad Mrs Emma Peel. Not featured in The original Mrs Peel series Steed's boss Mother naturally sends The agents on Their mission. The movie is just filled with wonderful original Avengers moments Mrs Peel pouring Tea for Steed as They are both riding along in The original series Trademark The vintage Bentley. close your eyes for a moment and The banter between Them is Macnee and Rigg. The special effects for The Time are at The Top of Their game I just love The scene were Steed & Emma are being chased racing along in Mrs Peel's Lotus by Giant controlled Wasps far out fantasy Avengers indeed. of course what made The Avengers series popular was The classic fight scenes and here Thurman's Emma Peel as her fair share from The climatic movie battle and dispatching henchmen while being placed in a straight jacket is pure Avengers. Ralph Fiennes John Steed as is fair slice of The cake from battling machine gun doting grandma's pushing prams To a run in with The original Avenger himself Patrick Macnee. as Patrick Macnee's voice is heard as a sort of invisible agent well we are viewing The fantasy worlds of The Avengers. This Newly Italian Blu-ray release of The movie comes with a full English Disc Menu no adjustments are needed To play your movie in English The Films Trailer is included as an extra. only really The Dust jacket Tells you its an Italian import However The Blu-ray Transfer is outstanding. A real mystery why The movie never Took of as it should have it's well known That a lot of scenes were filmed and removed from The movie before its initial release perhaps if These were reinstated The Film would be reappraised. Though a lot of movies based on old TV shows have been made since That have not bettered The Avengers Themselves The A Team being a prime example.Though for me The one off Avengers Movie is like a Good bottle of vintage wine Avengers style it will mature with age.

Having been hooked on the original tv series by my father and recently buying the complete collection this film had a lot to live up to and although it does not come close at matching the original it does capture some of the quirkiness and the feel of the real Avengers. Worth a watch for the price and I really feel some reviews are a little harsh.....not great but not that bad either. My biggest complaint however was the kiss between Steed and Mrs Peel, without wanting to sound like a prude. Fans of the series will know that there was never any romance with Steed and his assistants just some great chemistry so I found this out of character.

It's a fun remake of the original TV series. Staying true to the original characters.
With fun added.
A good watch.

Much under-rated film, which does retain the quirkiness of the TV series in most part. Enjoy for what it is.
